In most cases, Android has the Roboto font installed by default. It was developed by Google and released to the general public in 2012.
Most often, everyone is happy with it; they love it for its neat, even lines and clarity. But there will always be those who want to stand out from the crowd.
If you consider yourself one of such people, this article is for you. Huge advantage of Android as an OS it is completely "customizable". The system allows the user to change the built-in fonts. However, being able to replace fonts is not always an easy task. This often requires additional knowledge. Stock Android, unfortunately, does not have a built-in function for replacing fonts. However, many smartphone manufacturers are making improvements to the firmware and allowing users to change fonts. These include Samsung, LG and HTC. As a rule, the default settings for changing fonts are located in the “Display” section.
For example, Samsung preinstalls several fonts to choose from. If they are not enough, additional ones can be downloaded via Google Play. But most often it is paid.
To change the default font, you need to go to “Settings - Display - Font - Font Style”.
Just click on the font you like in the list and then confirm your choice. The font change will happen instantly. You don't even need to restart your phone. The new font will be displayed everywhere: in system menus, in SMS and even in the status bar.
Samsung, as you know, has long stopped skimping on any settings in its Galaxy, therefore, if they have the desire and ability, their users have always been able to optimize, or more accurately customize their smartphones according to their needs. So, in the font settings menu we tap the button “ Download fonts " and we go straight to the proprietary Galaxy App Store. Here we will find quite a lot of free fonts and a whole lot of paid ones (well, this is a store after all) at prices ranging from $0.99 to $1.79 per “piece”.
We scroll, look, choose. Having chosen the appropriate one, tap “ Install ". We wait for the smartphone to download the new font and tap the “ Ready ". The freshly downloaded font will automatically appear in the list of available fonts we have already mentioned. You can also delete it or another font right there.
Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ allow you to download as many fonts as you want (or for as little money as you want). In the case when you get tired of experimenting with fonts, or when you need to bring your smartphone to its natural look, you can always go to the settings and quickly install the standard factory font by simply selecting the option “ Default «.

The application supports all Galaxy series phones without the need for additional rights. On any other phones the program will work correctly only after the rooting procedure. And if you suddenly want to return the old font, HiFont allows you to do this with one click of a button.
Font Installer - another one free application, allowing you to select one of several hundred built-in fonts. Additional fonts can be installed directly from your phone's SD card. In addition, fonts can be shared. Font Installer is included in the ROM Toolbox Pro package, which already speaks of its quality. No matter what device you are using, Font Installer requires full rights.
Personally, I like HiFont better, but Font Installer is a great alternative if for some reason you can't or don't want to install HiFont.
PerAppFonts is a stylish application built on the Xposed framework. Thanks to PerAppFonts, you can change fonts, but with one important addition: it works on a per-app basis. The programs listed above change system font, which applies to all apps on your phone. PerAppFonts allows you to assign a different font to each application.
The only drawback of PerAppfonts is the meager set of built-in fonts. There are only 8 options to choose from: Monospace, Serif, Sans, Roboto Condensed, Storopia, Rosemary, Roboto Slab and the standard system font used by default. Luckily, you can add more fonts by downloading them to your phone's SD card and selecting PerAppFonts in the settings
The Xposed framework is quite interesting in itself. It has come a long way since the release of the first version. If your device does not have such a function, then you cannot do without root access. The program takes font libraries from several sources at once, so their total number is already about 4300.
Along with this advantage, the program has a drawback - fonts are not sorted by language packs. Therefore, it does not distinguish Cyrillic fonts from others. This may be a problem; before installation, you will have to make sure that the font you choose supports the Russian language.
HiFont is a free application that also uses FlipFont for its work. (That is, on Samsung mobile phones, for example, root access is not required). HiFont has integration with the GO Launcher described above, and if you install them simultaneously, working with fonts will become even more convenient and easier. Users note that this utility is easier to use than all others.
System Font Changer is a paid utility that can be purchased on Google Play. Designed for experienced users. Requires root access to work on any device. But all this pays off with very flexible settings, which are also significantly larger than those of previous programs. For example, you can smoothly change the size of the system font. There is a caveat: the program will not work on some smartphones from Samsung and LG, because they have their own tools for managing fonts, and the application is not compatible with them.

How to change the font to “Android 4 4 2” with Root rights?
The method also works on all new versions of Android OS. In fact, there is nothing complicated here. Just act carefully and thoughtfully, and everything will work out.
The procedure for changing the system font is as follows:
- 1.Prepare the font you need in advance in the form of a True Type Font file (with the .ttf extension). Make sure it supports Cyrillic.
- 2.Run (or pre-install) on your smartphone file manager, which works with system files, for example, ES File Explorer.
- 3.Upload the prepared font file to some folder where it will be at hand.
- 4.Open the /system/fonts folder in the file manager and find the Roboto-Regular.ttf file there (this is the system font of your device).
- 5.Make it backup copy– copy with a name, for example, Roboto-Regular.tt_
- 6.Move the previously prepared file with the new font to the /system/fonts folder and rename it to Roboto-Regular.ttf
- 7.Set permissions for this file to 644.
- 8.Reboot your smartphone.
In some places on the interface you may not see the new font. This is because the options used there are Roboto-Bold.ttf or Roboto-Italic.ttf. Then do the same manipulations with them too - replace them with the corresponding fonts from your set.
