This tutorial will help you install brushes for the version of Photoshop CC 2017. The algorithm will be the same for other versions.

Many users ask the question: “ How to download, add and install new brushes in Photoshop?. We will discuss this topic in detail in this lesson.

To get started, download the file with new brushes from our website or on the Internet and unpack it if it is in the archive

The easiest way to add brushes to the program is to simply drag the ABR file into Photoshop and drop it anywhere in the program outside of the working document. If you want to know a more detailed process, then read the instructions below..

Let's go to set management

Next, open Photoshop CS6 and go to the tab in the main menu at the top of the screen Editing -Sets- Set management(Edit - Preset Manager). The following window will appear:

The button next to the first pointer (in the form of a small arrow) allows you to select the type of add-on you want to install - brushes, textures, shapes, styles etc.

Button near the second pointer - shows the types of addition.

Loading brushes into Photoshop

Click on the small arrow and from the list that appears, by clicking the left mouse button, select the type of add-on - Brushes(Brushes):

A new window appears. Here you indicate the address of the downloaded file with brushes. This file is located on your desktop or placed in a special folder for downloaded add-ons. In my case, the file is located in the "Brushes" folder on the desktop:

Press again Download(Load)

Now, in the Manage Presets dialog box, you can see at the end of the brush set the new brushes we just loaded:

Note: if there are a lot of brushes, move the scroll bar down and new brushes will be visible at the end of the list

That's all Photoshop program I copied the specified file with brushes into my set. You can use it!

Together with you, I installed new brushes for myself! Let's see what happened!

The standard extension for photoshop brush files is .abr. Photoshop brushes are usually downloaded as an archive that needs to be unpacked. Downloaded brushes will not appear in Photoshop themselves. 3 ways to add brushes to photoshop.

How to download downloaded Photoshop brushes?

Photoshop brushes are usually downloaded as an archive that needs to be unpacked. You can download brushes. After unpacking, you will have a file with the extension .abr - this is the standard extension for photoshop brush files (besides this file with brushes, there may be other related files in the archive). Downloaded brushes will not appear in Photoshop themselves. They need to be added there manually.

I know three ways to add brushes to Adobe Photoshop CS4:

First way

To install the brush, you need to copy the file or files with the .abr extension to the brushes folder in Photoshop Brushes. Typically this folder is located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Brushes (instead of C - maybe the name of your system disk, where you installed Photoshop.) If you installed the program in another location, look for the "Brushes" folder there.

After opening Photoshop, a new set of brushes with the name of the copied file will appear in the list of brushes.

Second way

Open Adobe Photoshop, select the Brush tool. In the options bar of the Brush Tool, there is a small black triangle next to the image of the active brush (if you don’t see the options bar, go to the Window menu and check the Options menu).

Click on the triangle and in the menu that opens, click on another similar triangle. Then select Load Brushes from the list, then go to the folder where you unpacked the downloaded brushes, select them (these are files with the extension .abr) and press Load (Load) or press Enter.

Unlike the previous method, new brushes will be added to the previously installed set.

If your brushes in the set are displayed differently than in the picture, you can adjust the way the brushes are displayed. Choose pictures or pictures with text at your discretion.

Third way

Open Adobe Photoshop, select Preset Manager from the Edit menu.

A dialog box will open containing a list of items. Select Brushes from this list and click the Load button.

Go to the folder where you unpacked the downloaded Photoshop brushes, select them (files with the .abr extension), click Load and in the Preset Manager window click Done.

New brushes will be added to the previously installed set.

How to install brushes in Photoshop?

When drawing in Adobe Photoshop, the most commonly used tool is "Brush", because it allows you to make beautiful artistic strokes with fairly flexible and convenient settings. To paint with this tool, you use brush templates, which you can select from the attributes panel. However, there are times when a standard set of brushes may not be enough to perform certain tasks. In this lesson we will tell you, how to install brushes into the Adobe Photoshop editor.

In order to set the brush template, you need to select the tool "Brush" go to the attributes panel and left-click on the “Click to open brush set selection” icon.

Then you need to left-click on the icon located in the upper right corner.

In the appeared context menu select team "Load Brushes". It is worth noting that for adding a brush to the Photoshop editor(Adobe Photoshop) you must first download it to your computer. There are a huge number of services on the Internet where you will find many interesting artistic brushes and easily download them to your computer. In our case, we will use an already downloaded and saved brush template file. In the “Load” dialog box that opens, select a brush and click the “Load” button.

The brush will be downloaded and added to the collection. To find an installed brush, simply scroll to the bottom of the list of brush templates. As you can see, new brushes have appeared and now you can use them easily.

Thus, you can quickly install and apply the sets of brushes you need, significantly expanding the capabilities of the Adobe Photoshop editor.

Any active user Adobe programs Photoshop CS6 sooner or later, if not the need, then the desire to get new sets of brushes arises. On the Internet, it is possible to find many original sets with brushes for free access or for a nominal fee, but after downloading the found package to their computer, many people are perplexed due to ignorance of the principle of installing brushes in Photoshop. Let's take a closer look at this issue.

First of all, after downloading is complete, place the file where it will be convenient for you to work with it: on your desktop or in an empty folder. The downloaded file must have the extension ABR. In the future, it makes sense to organize a separate “library of brushes” in which you can sort them by purpose and use them without problems. The next step you will need to launch Photoshop and create in it new document with arbitrary parameters ( CTRL+N). Next we'll talk about how to add, delete, and restore sets.

Addition

Clicking on "Download", you will see a dialog box in which you will need to select the path to the location of the file with new brush. (Remember how we placed it in a convenient location at the very beginning?) The selected brush(es) will appear at the end of the list. To use, you only need to select the one you need.

Important: after selecting a team "Download", the brushes you selected appear in the existing list of brushes. This often causes inconvenience during operation, so we recommend that you use the command "Replace" and the library will subsequently display only the set you need.

Removal

To remove a brush that is boring or simply unnecessary to you, right-click on its thumbnail and select "Delete".

Saving

Sometimes it happens that during the process you remove brushes that you “will never use.” To avoid having to go back over your work, save these brushes as your new set and specify where you want to place them.

Recovery

If, being carried away by downloading and installing new sets of brushes, the standard brushes have disappeared from the program, use the command "Restore" and everything will return to normal, that is, the library will return to the default set.

After studying this lesson, you will learn How to add brushes to Photoshop. Suppose you downloaded a set of brushes for Photoshop on the Internet, to start using them you need to open graphic editor and install them correctly. It's not difficult at all. So let's get started with the lesson!
