How to use friGate

Over time, friGate developers removed most of the functions from their product. For example, there are no longer tools for maintaining anonymity and compressing incoming traffic. But friGate still copes well with its main task - allowing you to access blocked sites.

  1. To open the extension menu, click on the icon in the upper right corner of the browser.
  2. On the tab "Operating mode" you can set which resources will pass through the proxy: only those from the friGate list or all without exception. By default, the first option is activated in the extension. If you want the extension to pass all traffic through a proxy, activate the option "All sites".
  3. In the next tab "Latest open sites", accordingly, the resources visited in the browser are opened. To add a resource to the friGate list, check the box next to it, and then click on the button "Save".
  4. To quickly disable the add-on, move the slider "ON" in the upper right corner to the inactive position. To enable Frigate again, activate this item.
  5. friGate also provides advanced settings. Right-click on the extension icon and select "Extension Management".
  6. On the tab "Operating mode" it is set whether sites from the list or all resources opened in Firefox will be loaded through a proxy.
  7. In the next tab "List of sites" You can add web resources to which you have limited access. To do this, paste the link into the window, and then click on the button "Save".

  9. On the tab "Proxy" contains servers that friGate will use when gaining access to blocked resources.

You can find them either manually or with using Google(for this purpose there is a button at the bottom of the window “Search for proxies in Google”.

  11. Add a proxy server to the column and save the changes by clicking the button "Save".

friGate is a VPN extension for Mozilla Firefox that has been tested by many users, the use of which allows you to get rid of barriers on the Internet.

friGate CDN – this extension allows browsers based on the Blink engine (Opera, Google Chrome) and Gecko (Firefox) to get uninterrupted access to sites that are not available in a particular region. It is also capable of encrypting transmitted data if SSL is not used. The built-in PageSpeed Optimization feature makes it possible to optimize site data for faster display of its pages.

Possibilities

After installing friGate CDN for Yandex Browser, you will be able to gain access to blocked sites. After accessing the resource, the extension independently determines the speed of your connection to the server and, if it is not high enough, the plugin uses a special proxy from the developer, which will provide the required data transfer speed. Already using the extension large number people on the Internet, in 2015 their number exceeded 700 thousand. According to the developer's statistics, at least 250 thousand users were added every year.

With friGate, any browser gets additional features, as well as broader proxy settings. Standard means browsers use limited proxy functions. The application improves work with settings by adding graphical interface elements; it is possible to adjust the list of resources that will be opened using a proxy. You can also set your own settings for a specific resource. All types are supported, even with authorization. Additional features:

  • creating exclusion lists;
  • creating lists of sites that will use proxies;
  • you can create a list using one click;
  • distribute proxies among states.

Operating principle

friGate is installed in a standard way– through the online store. There are about a dozen clones of the extension on the store pages, so it is best to download it via a direct link or from the official website page. You can make sure that it is installed in your browser using the triangular icon on the browser toolbar. Next, you will need to make small adjustments to the extension itself for more comfortable work.

An important feature of this software is that opening a blocked resource using a proxy is only possible if it is included in the list. If you try to follow links that are not listed, your IP will not be hidden and, most likely, access will not be possible. To create your own website database:

  • you need to select the extension in the browser toolbar and right-click;
  • then select the “Options” line from the drop-down menu;
  • Next, you need to click “Add list”;
  • now, using the address entry window and the “Add site” button, create a list and in the column next to it set the value “proxy is always enabled” (please note that before the address you need to enter an asterisk, then a dot, and then only the address itself without the http or www protocol) .

  • friGate determines “on the fly” whether it is necessary to use a proxy for a given site, and then, if necessary, establishes a connection through a proxy server;
  • there is a list of resources that are blocked, the list is often supplemented by developers;
  • presence of a proxy from the developer.

  • V Mozilla browser Firefox cannot view your personal list of sites, as well as limited editing capabilities;
  • sometimes disappears from the store for a while;
  • a small list of resources below the block.

How to download and install

friGate is a convenient extension for accessing any blocked sites. To install it, do the following:

  1. Open the browser from Yandex.
  2. Click on the link https://chrome.google.com/webstore/.
  3. This is a Chrome extension store. In the search bar, type: “FriGate” and press Enter.

Just set your sights on some interesting site, and there you are, “Blocked.” Of course, solely out of concern for you. Or because of sanctions. Or you have a very strict boss at work. Or because some structures have nothing to do (and the latter seems more and more likely every day).

Fortunately, this is not a reason to tear out the hair on your own or your neighbor’s head, nor, indeed, to immediately leave the prohibited site. You can simply launch one of the many applications available today, which will reliably encrypt your location and provide access to the desired information.

An excellent solution is friGate CDN. This is a browser extension that allows you to quickly and painlessly bypass blocking. Now you can visit any site safely and anonymously. This works both for regional blocking and in the fight against the “lawlessness” of local system administrators. If you are suddenly blocked at work social media, friGate CDN will also be happy to help you.

Key Features

Everything ingenious is simple. FriGate CDN evaluates the speed of website access. If a problem is detected (the speed is too low or even zero), the extension connects one of its CDN nodes and redirects access through it. The nodes are “scattered” across different countries, which means that it is almost impossible to catch you gathering on third-party resources.

By the way, the extension is devoid of the disease of many VPNs, which “eat up” part of the speed. Running all traffic over HTTP/2, which helps significantly speed up loading.

Just install FriGate CDN on your browser and you will no longer have to worry about a site being unavailable.

Pros and cons of the extension

  • Minimum consumption of system resources.
  • Ability to bypass site blocking.
  • Anonymizes work on the network.

friGate for Mozilla Firefox

Nowadays you can find many extensions for browsers that provide access to blocked resources. Owners of Yandex.Browser can use friGate without any problems - useful addition, working only on blocked resources.

It's no secret that now websites are blocked not only in Russia. Therefore, the developers made two separate extensions: for citizens of the Russian Federation and for residents of Ukraine. There are no differences in the interface and functions between them, except for the list of resources that the application bypasses. We will tell you more about this later; you will find links to both add-ons at the end of the article.

Smart work

Using the FreeGate extension for Yandex Browser is very easy. The user usually does not even need to configure it - it provides all the basic functions automatically. In particular, its operation is activated only when you go to a blocked site. Separate lists have been compiled for Russia and Ukraine with sites that are blocked in these countries, and as soon as you try to go to one of them, friGate will start working. When you go to any other addresses, it will temporarily turn off. This will ensure maximum speed under your own IP, as well as correct determination of your location by Internet resources, which is important when determining the weather, logging into online stores, etc.

Lists of blocked sites

For further settings, you will need to go to the extension settings. To do this, just click on the FreeGate icon, which is located to the right address bar, right-click, and select "Settings".

Ready list

Here the first parameter you will see is a list of blocked sites, manually compiled by the developers. This list is one for Russia, another for Ukraine. Once logged in, you can disable friGate triggering for any address by clicking on the green button.

After disabling it, it will turn gray - until it is turned on again, the extension will not work when switching to it.

Personal list

It is possible to create your own list, since the main one cannot be edited. These will not necessarily be blocked services - work is supported on any sites where there is a need to change your personal IP. To do this, simply enter the list name and click "Add List".

Subsequently, its name can be changed, as well as the list can be deleted or disabled/enabled.

To add the first address, click on the name of the list. Read the recommendations for correctly adding an address and select the proxy algorithm.

Each site added in this way can also be edited, deleted and disabled/enabled.

Proxy settings

friGate provides all its users with free servers different countries, but you can also add your own addresses found on the Internet or purchased yourself. In this case, the extension will act as an intermediary, working with lists of sites to which it will provide access.

You can add several proxy addresses at once, including those with support for the SOCKS protocol. The downside is that you can’t manually select just one IP; the add-on will do this automatically.

Additional anonymity

Sites with advanced protection against users with proxies can block login attempts through public proxies, which include extension addresses or those that you found on the network. To provide an additional level of privacy, use the "Anonymity" by changing DNS in the operating system settings.

Using a TLD Proxy

TLD is a top-level domain, for example, .ru, .com, etc. The extension will be enabled when trying to navigate to .onion domains and other specific sites. By default, they are all activated in the settings.

Activating and using the panel

In the settings, you can disable the panel that appears in the upper right corner of the page when you go to a blocked site. It is not very convenient because it cannot be moved to another place, which is why some page elements in this place become unclickable. However, sometimes it turns out to be useful.

Clicking on the country flag changes the provided proxy - each time the IP of a different country will be issued within a limited number of addresses.

You can reduce the panel by clicking on the arrow button located under the flag. It will shrink, but it will not be difficult to expand it at any time with the same button.

Advantages

  • Own list of blocked sites;
  • Creation and flexible management of a personal list;
  • Activation of proxy work only on blocked or manually added addresses;
  • Using your own proxy addresses;
  • Free list of proxies from different countries;
  • Russified interface of the add-on, including settings.

Flaws

  • Some servers are often slow;
  • Sometimes a specific country's proxy becomes unavailable when switching.

FreeGate is convenient and often functions without additional settings addition. Thanks to its selective activation, the loading speed of most sites remains the same, and information about the user’s location does not change. The official website will offer to download version 2 or 3 of the add-on, as well as a version for residents of Ukraine with a personal list of blocked sites. Despite the fact that the site defines Yandex.Browser as Google Chrome, the installation will occur without any problems.
