Therapeutic robot Petit Qoboo.

Petit Qoboo is a robot created by Yukai Engineering. If tickling and belly rubs are your main reason for wanting a feline friend, then the Petit Qoboo robot may be a little strange, but almost animal-like for you. The robotic companion is a fluffy therapy pillow with an expressive tail that looks like a cat substitute.

A larger model of the robotic therapy pad with a tail can already be purchased on Amazon for about $150, but the new Petit Qoboo robot model, which debuted last year at the 2020 CES electronics show, is still in the prototype stage. The creator of the new robot is working on an ambitious schedule and hopes his miniature cat replacements will hit store shelves later this year.

Video review of Petit Qoboo: Comparison of the old and new model of the companion robot.

Comment on the history of the creation of the robot "Petit Qoobo", from the developer:

Saaya Okuda, overseas marketer at Yukai Engineering Inc:

"Yukai Engineering Inc. decided to create a new companion for Qoobo, "Petit Qoobo", as a result of listening to the voices of Qoobo owners and fans. We received comments hoping for a smaller, more portable version of Qoobo that could be carried around. There were also requests for additional features that would make Qoobo more realistic. "Petit Qoobo" and its features are a response to these voices.

"Petit Qoobo" is much smaller than the original Qoobo, and users can easily carry it with them when going out, taking it to a friend's house, and so on. In addition to Qoobo's original feature of wagging its tail in response to touch, "Petit Qoobo" also responds to loud sounds such as clapping its hands or saying its name. Users can also feel slight heartbeat and breathing movements, which provide a more realistic quality. "

Electronics manufacturer Cooler Master has a range of hardware products such as keyboards, power supplies, headsets, computer (PC) cases, mice and, of course, coolers. Each of its products has been specifically designed based on community feedback. Including hybrid keyboards. Cooler Master even had a Kickstarter project for an analog keyboard with pressure-sensitive keys called the ContolPad. With that said, let's take a closer look at what can do new keyboard Cooler Master SK621 is special for the user.

Keyboard news today: Cooler Master SK621 review - mechanical wireless keyboard with a separate wired connection option.

The first thing that is noticeable during the review is the ability to conveniently pair the wireless keyboard with three different devices. Connecting your device is as simple as holding the function button and Z, X or C. This feature makes it very easy to switch from using your phone to your computer. Turning on the Cooler Master SK621 keyboard is also easy. Either connect it via a USB Type-C cable, or on the left side activate the very simple switch for wireless mode.

Technical characteristics of the Cooler Master SK621 wireless keyboard:

You can map a wide variety of colors (shades) to any key, customize lighting modes, or customize macros using the Cooler Master software.

How does a wireless keyboard work?

When using the SK621 for the first time, it is recommended to connect to your computer via USB Type-C and install the Cooler Master Portal. This will allow you to control the different lighting effects and settings of the wireless keyboard. It is possible to create preset profiles, which makes it easier to switch between profiles when using elements. You can also adjust the lighting effects using the controls, but the above mentioned portal is more user friendly. The wireless keyboard setup is very easy to use and has many combinations. There are options - adjusting the speed, direction and brightness of the keyboard backlight effects.

Macros can also be programmed. It is also worth adding that all functions such as RGB lighting, macros and controls are available when using the SK621 via Bluetooth connection. Time battery life The wireless keyboard is also impressive. It may take a couple of full business days before the light turns red, indicating that the battery is low. Charging the SK621 wireless keyboard is also easy. Just connect your keyboard via USB Type-C. The keyboard can still be used as a wired keyboard as long as the cable charges the keyboard's battery.

The keyboard body is crafted from brushed aluminum, making it lightweight, durable, and provides excellent appearance. There's also a nice sleek aluminum edge accent that adds a touch of elegance. The keys are made of plastic and don't have much texture.

Low-profile Cherry MX keys are quiet enough for office use. The key switches are incredibly sensitive and using the Cooler Master SK621 Wireless Keyboard takes some practice. This is because the keys register key presses to the nearest millimeter or less.

The SK621 hybrid keyboard is designed to be compact and quite portable. A nice addition is the velvet bag. It's definitely made for gaming thanks to its Cherry MX keys, but it's easy to use for work.

The Cooler Master SK621 does everything it's designed to do. However, the keys are great for gaming but are too sensitive for typing. Plastic keys are also prone to oil stains on your fingers, so eating while gaming can be difficult. Perhaps if the keys had some kind of oil-resistant coating or more texture, the oil marks wouldn't be as pronounced.

Features of SK621 Wireless Keyboard:

Brushed aluminum body design;

Flat brushed aluminum top panel keyboards, floating keycaps and a slim, minimalist body design.

Colored keyboard backlight Cooler Master (RGB LEDs);

Individually customizable LED key backlighting and surrounding LED ring.

Hybrid wired and wireless;

Connect up to three devices via wireless technology Bluetooth 4.0 or wired connection and charging the battery at the same time.

Minimum keyboard layout by 60%;

We can say that this thin wireless mini keyboard has a unique design for maximum portability.

Easy to use software.

Low profile Cherry MX keys;

The reduced travel distance and actuation point performs with equal durability and accuracy (according to the wireless keyboard manufacturer).

Available controls;

In real time, you can customize keyboard backlighting and macros without the need for software.

Summary of the Cooler Master SK621 wireless keyboard:

Overall, electrical and keyboard maker Cooler Master has exceeded all expectations. It's especially impressive because it can make a really interesting wireless keyboard. The SK621 model has a variety of lighting effects and individual settings, has a compact design and a lot of user-friendly functions. Using the SK621 at work and then bringing it home for gaming could make it a favorite wireless keyboard for the price of nearly $200.

ETH Zurich has unveiled details of "Concrete Choreography", an installation that recently opened in Riom, Switzerland. The innovative installation features the first robotically constructed 3D printed concrete stage, consisting of formless columns 3D printed to full height in 2.5 hours. The process is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of concrete structures while achieving the fabrication of complex material components and construction robots.

3D printing news: ETH Zurich creates concrete columns using a special 3D concrete printer.

In Riom, Switzerland, the Origen festival features nine 2.7-meter-high columns. Each column is 3D printed concrete. The new columns were individually designed using custom software and manufactured using a concrete printer, a new automated concrete 3D printing process developed by the ETH Zurich team with support from NCCR DFAB.

3D concrete printing like this

MSc Digital Fabrication and Architecture students explore the unique capabilities of multi-layer extrusion printing, demonstrating the potential of computer-aided design and digital fabrication for the future of concrete construction. Perhaps the construction industry this process in the future it will become more environmentally friendly if they develop new eco-concrete for 3D printing.

Video review of 3D concrete printing: Concrete choreography.

This is how easy and fast 3D concrete printing works.

3D printing of houses and buildings made of concrete is a prospect for construction.

Hollow concrete structures are printed for the strategic use of materials, resulting in a more sustainable approach to specific architecture. Additionally, the calculated material structure and surface textures are an example of the versatility and significant aesthetic potential of 3D concrete printing when used in large-scale structures.

The new review will be about printing on a 3D printer with metal.

It is worth noting that there is technology to carry out 3D printing with metal. This is also a promising direction for construction, but for this, other materials are used (for example, powder), programs and other types of printers (which we will talk about soon).

What color is yours mobile phone? Is it black, red, white, gold or blue? Most likely, the back of your phone has some kind of solid color option that you will find in a coloring book for beginners. It has taken too long for most phone manufacturers to realize that phone colors actually matter to consumers, and it is only recently that they have started giving mobile phones not just a rarely used color, but fancy shades like coral red or canary green.

Honor News: With new 3D holographic color phones from Honor, it's possible to add a little new color to life.

It's no surprise that most people don't mind hiding the backs of their phones behind an opaque plastic case. In cases, the user can choose a suitable color for the phone case to give the mobile a little personality. But China's new Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20 series phones are the world's first smartphones with 3D dynamic holographic design, and their reflective appearance could become a new industry standard.

"Always better" is the company's motto. Perhaps this motto suggests that she refuses to follow the industry standard by simply experimenting with layers of paint with each new phone model.

Color 3D holography for the phone case.

In order for the phone body to achieve a shimmering optical illusion, the manufacturer Honor designed its Honor 20 model with a deep layer containing millions of shimmering microscopic prisms, and on top of this a so-called 3D curved glass layer is placed. The combination of these technologies causes the light to "play and dance" on the back of the phone as the user turns it in different directions.

Two colors for the Honor 20 phone can be found under these dynamic layers, Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue. Unlike the newfangled phrases for some phone colors, Honor mobile has color gradients for phones that actually evoke the effect of a shimmering night sky or a shimmering jewel.

While the color options sound exciting, you can go even further with the Chinese Honor 20 Pro phone. This upgraded model features the signature "Triple 3D Mesh" containing three layers. Instead of just painting the back of the phone itself, this time a layer of body color sits between the outer 3D layer and the inner depth layer. According to the phone maker, this makes color shifting effects much more dynamic.

The Honor 20 Pro mobile phone is actively sold in two colors such as Phantom Black and Phantom Blue. Although the names of these phone colors are not so metaphorical, do not think that their rear panels are less dynamic.

Honor's obsession with choosing the right colors may seem overly dramatic, but in the UK, for example, a survey of hundreds of Brits found that forty-nine percent of them consider color when choosing a phone to buy.

Why is a phone with a changing color scheme being sold?

What is a phone for? Choosing a mobile phone, as Honor designer Jun-Soo Kim puts it, is “Extending human life.” Essentially, Honor is saying that customer identity cannot be captured in one unchanging color.

The history of the creation of Honor color phones.

The Honor 20 demonstrates the natural evolution of the company's experiments with dynamic color in phone design (irridescent colors). The Honor 8 model started the trend of a 2.5D multi-layer back wall, which creates a 3D lattice effect. Then the Honor 9 version turned into a phone with a curved 3D glass, echoes of which can already be found in the Honor 20 model. Well, last year, the Honor 10 model was equipped with an Aurora rear glass that reflected colors from all sides.

What is the screen like on an Honor phone?

Honor's design innovations don't stop at the color of the phone's body. It's worth paying attention to the placement of the Honor 20's camera. Instead of trimming the screen to make room for the "selfie" camera. The phone maker has cut a 4.5mm hole in the top left corner of the screen, thereby leaving more screen space for the user's needs.

Camera with artificial intelligence or AI camera in your phone.

According to the description of the phone, it is worth noting that on the back of the device, the Honor 20 AI camera has four lenses and is located so as to leave more space for a battery with more memory. But most importantly, the result is a 48-megapixel camera that uses the Kirin 980 AI microchip to take DSLR-quality photos and enhance photos.

Summary of Honor phone color.

Bottom line, the phone's descriptions, technical compatibility, and cutting-edge hardware innovations are what usually attract attention to Chinese phones Honor. But in this case, the technology is almost overshadowed by the uniquely colored body design, which may make some users reluctant to go back to simple 2D phone body colors in the future.

Reasons for rumors about the release of a mobile phone continue to arise. Google phone Pixel 4. A new set of information or predictions comes from a leaked image (3D rendering of colored cases) that is believed to be related to Google Pixel 4. There are often cases when users who follow the topic of new products lose attention to such images. Meanwhile, for some analysts, the new picture helps make a few assumptions about more than just the color of the phone.

A new unofficial image of the Google Pixel 4 is sparking rumors about color options for the mobile phone's body.

While another image of the phone body itself doesn't seem to show more than what was previously discussed online, the model seen in the background of the photo raises eyebrows due to its color. That mobile phone has a shade of purple that the Pixel model didn't have before.

Elsewhere, there have been other leaks of the same Google Pixel 4 with "three phones" (variants) stacked in a row. There are white and black colors, plus the third has a bluish tint, which some call mint green. Would you like to buy a blue phone? Probably the name of the phone colors will still be updated.

Whatever leak about the phone's colors is true or false, it's safe to assume that the new Google Pixel 4 will definitely have an additional color this year. What's even more interesting is that in the image, the physical buttons on the sides of the phones contrast with the color of the body. You can see white, blue and yellow buttons which give the phone a fun look.

For some strange reason, all the images and leaks seen so far have only shown the back panel Google smartphone Pixel 4. As reported in various sources, allegedly Google company shared a rendering of the phone, and there was also a part where the square camera bump appeared. The dual camera unit was visible.

The rumored leaked photos, including an image along with cases, show the back panel different colors and a module with a camera. What do you think is the best phone color?

About the technical characteristics of Google Pixel 4:

Obviously, the idea of a fingerprint scanner is not leaving fans alone. Some want the phone to either have Face ID to unlock the phone, or an in-display fingerprint scanner, or both.

Some other aspects and specifications, such as the dimensions of the phones and the overall thickness being 8.2 millimeters higher compared to the 7.9 mm seen in the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, can be taken as close to reality.

There is speculation that the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL versions of the phone may be more like the " Apple iPhone 11" which is scheduled to be released in a couple of months. When, more precisely? Technology company Google has not yet announced the official release date of the Pixel 4, but various sources are hinting at the release of the new phone at the end of the year.

Have you ever wondered why you need the latest model phone? We'll tell you more about this soon, so stay tuned for news about new smartphones from Google.

Robotics news: MIT's nimble Robot solves a Rubik's Cube in a world record time of 0.38 seconds.

Many people have a special place in their hearts for the Rubik's Cube. This is a good workout for the intellect. Many people loved or still love to play with this ingenious toy, and over the years there have been many competitions, challenges and variations to solve the Rubik's Cube.

The popularity of the Rubik's Cube can be attributed to the simplicity of its design combined with the mind-boggling complexity of the puzzle.

New record for solving a Rubik's Cube 3x3x3.

Engineers and hobbyists have been using robots to solve Rubik's Cubes for years. 10 seconds used to be considered a quick assembly, but by today's digital age standards, that's a time that makes you smile.

It was only a matter of time before engineers and roboticists began to tackle the challenge of creating a new robot. Back in 2016, the robot set a new record for solving a Rubik's Cube in 0.637 seconds. But for some enthusiasts, that time wasn't fast enough.

Just recently, two MIT students, Jared Di Carlo (a third-year electrical engineering and computer science student) and Ben Katz (a mechanical engineering graduate student), thought they could build a faster robot that could solve a 3D combination puzzle.

They watched videos of previous robots, and noticed that the robots' motors were not the fastest that could be used to solve the problem. So they thought they could do better with better engines and controls.

How a robot solves a Rubik's Cube

Students installed an electronically controlled motor that powers each face of the Rubik's Cube. Using a pair of web cameras pointed at the cube, special software determines the initial state of each side of the cube (which colors are on which side of the cube at a given time). Then, based on the information received, using existing software for solving the Rubik's Cube, the robot solves the puzzles using an algorithm.

What is the result of the work? Their robot solved a Rubik's Cube in 0.38 seconds! It is safe to say that no person is physically capable of breaking the record for this speed. We can add another achievement to the list of robots surpassing humans.

There is a man who holds the fastest world record for hand assembly, his name is Felix Zemdegs. He was able to solve the Rubik's Cube in 4.22 seconds. The skills and talents that robots are replacing are vast and varied, to say the least. Not to mention that robots can still surprise. Next is a video demonstration of the robot; it’s better not to blink while watching.

Video review of assembling a Rubik's Cube in 0.38 seconds:

That's it, hardware hackers Ben Katz and Jared Di Carlo broke the previous record for robotically solving a Rubik's Cube. Their robot solved the puzzle 40 percent faster than the previous record.

Details about the record-breaking robot

The robotic device is assembled from motors from the Kollmorgen ServoDisc U9 series, PlayStation Eye cameras (for scanning the cube) and, of course, a Rubik's Cube was needed. According to the robot's creators, "The entire software process takes about 45 milliseconds. Most of the time is spent waiting for the webcam driver and determining the colors on the sides of the Rubik's Cube."

Facebook Inc. Artificial Intelligence Research Group. introduced a new robotics platform called PyRobot. This platform (framework) was developed jointly with researchers from Carnegie Mellon University. PyRobot aims to help AI researchers and students integrate deep learning models built using the PyTorch platform (a machine learning library for the Python programming language) with the robots they create. The basic idea is that they can create their robots more easily by using artificial intelligence skills such as natural language processing.

News from the world of robots with AI (AI): Facebook introduces a platform for robotics PyRobot is an open source framework for controlling robots.

Facebook said it wants to promote long-term robotics research to help develop embedded artificial intelligence systems that can learn more efficiently by interacting with the physical world.

Previously, to stimulate the production of artificial intelligence models, the company introduced PyTorch Hub.

What is PyRobot today

PyRobot is a lightweight, high-level interface that provides independent hardware APIs for robotic manipulation and navigation. The PyRobot repository also contains a low-level stack for LoCoBot, a low-cost mobile manipulator hardware platform (robot assembly toolkit). Now artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming more accessible to those new to robotics.

Research supervisor Abinav Gupta and Saurabh Gupta, as a research fellow at Facebook, explained in their blog that: PyRobot is a lightweight, high-level interface on top operating system robot It provides a consistent set of hardware-independent middle-level APIs (application programming interfaces) for controlling a variety of robots. PyRobot abstracts away the details of low-level controllers and interprocess communication, so machine learning specialists and others can simply focus on building high-level AI (artificial intelligence) robotics applications.

Facebook's source also says PyRobot has dozens of potential applications, such as helping researchers share data and set benchmarks and build on each other's work. The company solicited proposals from the broader AI research community on how to democratize robotics using LoCoBot and PyRobot, which are hardware specifications and tools for building low-cost robots.

PyRobot works by using APIs to abstract the functions that robots need to use. Perform tasks such as kinematics, path planning, position, speed and torque control for joints, and visual simultaneous localization and mapping. PyRobot comes with a number of pre-trained deep learning models that allow robots to navigate, grasp objects, and more.

This means developers can program their robots using just a few lines of Python code, Facebook says.

Facebook researchers also say that: The cost of hardware and the complexity of specialized software limit the scope of robotics research. With lower barriers to entry, researchers can, for example, build multiple robots that collect data and learn in parallel. Providing a common platform for various equipment. PyRobot will lead to the development of benchmarks in robotics, similar to other areas in AI, and will quantify the pace of progress in AI robotics.

Like Amazon's RoboMaker, PyRobot runs as an interface on top of the robot operating system (ROS), extending the infrastructure. In May, technology company Microsoft released a set of robotics tools with a limited preview, and last year integrated the ROS platform into Windows 10.

When was the first one born? Galaxy Note, everyone unanimously predicted failure for him - they say, keep This impossible in the hands, only complete geeks need such a device, of which there are not so many in the world. Unexpectedly for everyone, perhaps even for Samsung itself, the Galaxy Note sold millions of copies. It wasn’t just geeks who took it, whose count really doesn’t amount to millions - let’s say, in the Taiwanese subway, at every step you can meet young beauties typing a message to a friend on a Galaxy Note in a pink case.

In general, on the wave of success, it was decided to continue. The new Galaxy Note with serial number 2 was introduced to the world at the IFA exhibition in Berlin, like its predecessor the year before. Presented with pomp - the Koreans invited Wim Wenders, director of the cult art-house film “Sky over Berlin”, who calls himself the first ambassador of the Galaxy Note, to the presentation. What does Wim Wenders have to do with it? Despite the fact that Samsung is positioning the Note as a device for those who want to create. Let's see what the Koreans themselves have done.

⇡ Appearance

Confuse Samsung Galaxy The Note 2 can't be paired with almost anything - except perhaps its only ancestor, the original Galaxy Note. The two devices are indeed very similar - primarily in size: no one really produces any more of these “megalopaths”. The new Note has become a few millimeters longer, literally a couple of millimeters narrower and just a little bit thinner, but against the backdrop of the overall large dimensions, such changes are almost invisible. The mass increased, but also just a little, by a few grams. But many claim that the device has become more grippy, that it now fits better in the hand. The characteristic Samsung design has not gone away either. Except that the new Note also has something from the Galaxy S III - the shapes are a little more rounded, and overall the smartphone looks more modern.

Otherwise, everything is the same: a huge screen covering the entire front panel, which now takes up even more space - the frame is very thin, the standard Samsung button combination - two touch and one mechanical, a “chrome” edging on the sides, a thin polycarbonate back cover. Samsung still doesn’t consider it necessary to highlight the touch buttons when they are inactive; the chrome speaker grille, it seems, will peel off again, as it did on all previous models.

All the buttons are in their usual places - to make it easier to switch from Samsung to Samsung. Even the speaker remained in the same place where it was, and the S Pen still sticks out in the lower right corner, and sometimes (an old habit from the days of Windows Mobile) you sometimes want to stuff it into the headphone jack on the right, respectively. top corner.

The changes are hidden in the details: Note 2 has a slightly more elongated mechanical button, and a multi-colored LED indicator has appeared - again from SGS III. In general, if the Galaxy Note seemed stretched out by the Galaxy S II, then the Note 2 seems about as grown up by the Galaxy S III. The device will be produced in two colors: white and dark blue, with an equally glossy back cover. The new product does not have a convenient corrugated cover, like the first Note. But the main thing about Note 2, of course, is not restyling.

⇡ Screen

The display, however, is also not the most important change, but the important thing is that it has become even larger - 5.55 inches versus 5.3 in the original - with practically unchanged dimensions of the device. This was achieved by changing its proportions: previously the screen aspect ratio was 16:10 - 1280x800 pixels, but now - 16:9, 1280x720 pixels. That is, the display has become a little more elongated.

Really long, right?

Here we could mention the lower resolution, but the display manufacturing technology has also changed: previously it was PenTile AMOLED, and now it is a full-fledged RGB AMOLED. In Samsung's marketing language, both are called HD Super AMOLED; according to the official characteristics, the difference is generally impossible to discern. However, the fact is that the actual screen resolution has even increased - a pixel consists not of two subpixels, but of three. The dot density is 264 PPI, that is, it is not the notorious “retina”, but grain can only be seen if you bring the device close to your eyes.

Our measurements showed that the luminosity of the white field of the screen, traditionally low for AMOLED displays, is 161.1 cd/m2 - more than that of the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S III, but three times less than that of the Apple iPhone 5 with its IPS matrix. The contrast, of course, is huge - black practically does not glow.

The white luminosity for AMOLED is not the sum of the luminosities of the color components, as in LCD displays, but is approximately two times lower. For example, only green shines even brighter than white - to form white, the green subpixel obviously has to be dimmed.

But in terms of color gamut, AMOLED displays have no equal. Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S III have approximately the same color palette and... it is wider than the Adobe RGB color space, not to mention sRGB. However, you don’t have to be happy about this - modern graphics are usually “tailored” to the sRGB space, so on a display with such a wide gamut, colors look oversaturated, especially green.

The lack of screen brightness is compensated by its size - the total luminous flux of the Galaxy Note 2 is quite impressive. So the display can be called very, very decent: in fact, it got rid of the only drawback of the first Note’s screen - the PenTile one, while retaining all its advantages.

⇡ Iron

Every new phone Samsung should surpass its predecessor in the number of cores and their speed, even if its screen resolution has become smaller. Therefore, it is not surprising that the place of the dual-core Exynos 4210 from the previous generation Note was taken by the quad-core Exynos 4412 with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. While those who like to count cores and hertz rejoice, let us remind more skeptical readers that the technological process has also become thinner: the Exynos 4210 from the first Note was produced using a 45 nm process technology, and the Exynos 4412 is 32 nm. But the graphics adapter is the same, Mali 400 MP4.

The subject of particular delight for fans of numbers in the specifications is 2 GB of RAM. Almost no one else has this. Additional RAM, of course, eats up extra watt-hours of battery, but not a single application on the Galaxy Note 2 even thinks about slowing down anywhere. The amount of permanent memory varies depending on the model: from 16 to 64 GB plus MicroSD.

Wireless capabilities also did not remain without updates. We won’t talk too much about GSM, HSPA, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi - everything is clear, but the Galaxy Note 2 has NFC and (theoretically) LTE. This is where a few clarifications would be helpful.

If you look closely, you can find two pairs of contacts next to the battery. One is designed to connect a special cover with wireless induction charging. Samsung doesn't advertise this much for the simple reason that chargers, like covers, are currently only available as an accessory from a third-party manufacturer. Samsung itself does not make them, citing the fact that modern wireless chargers shorten battery life. The second pair of contacts on the cover corresponds to a kind of “blip” - this is exactly the NFC antenna. So all the tricks that allows you to create NFC, can also be implemented using the Galaxy Note 2.

Everything is more fun and easier with LTE. In some markets, say South Korea, the Galaxy Note 2 with LTE is available. Well, or he will eat. And the smartphone that we visited, and which, in fact, is planned to be sold in Russia, does without LTE - it is a regular GSM device with a maximum data transfer speed of 21 Mbit/s with a spherical connection to HSPA+ in a vacuum. Judging by existing data, even the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II will not work in the bands allocated for LTE networks in Russia.

⇡ Performance

A powerful processor paired with two gigabytes of RAM and older, but quite serious graphics should demonstrate very decent numbers in tests. It makes sense to compare the “plafond” first of all with its predecessor. In some benchmarks, it can compete with the iPhone 5, which has not yet left the lips of the masses.

The piece of hardware lives up to expectations: the giant device has indeed become noticeably faster than its predecessor, and, funny enough, mainly in terms of graphics. In online (and therefore cross-platform) disciplines, the iPhone is ahead, but not that far - the gap is less than 10%.

One of the Galaxy Note 2's strongest points is its 3100 mAh battery (11.78 Wh, 3.8 V). It's no joke - a quarter of the battery of an average laptop! Certainly, powerful processor and a huge screen consume a lot of energy, but this does not prevent the “plafond” from living without recharging at an average load for about two days. In the Antutu Tester benchmark, the device scores 659 points and is in third place in the rating of this test.

⇡ Camera

Judging by the Apple iPhone 5 and the latest Samsung models, there are no more than eight megapixels in the sensor, and there is no need for it. There are companies that think differently, but the same iPhone doesn’t make things worse. The Galaxy Note 2 also has an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash.

True, if you don’t change the settings, it takes mediocre pictures - worse than the camera in the first Note. If the settings are set correctly, the frames will turn out quite decent. For example, under fluorescent lamps, the Galaxy Note 2 is openly blue, but with the appropriate white balance preset it gives more or less realistic colors. And in the dark, if you don’t expose night mode, the device turns any light sources into large spots of light that cover part of the image. The first Note did not suffer from such problems.

The video is, naturally, recorded in Full HD resolution; its quality has exactly the same problems as photographs - you need to constantly adjust the settings. There is a 2 megapixel front camera, but, as usual, it is best used exclusively for video calls.

In general, the Galaxy Note 2's camera is not doing well. It’s great that it takes good pictures with the right parameters, but only one percent of those taking pictures will get to the settings when shooting on a phone, while the rest of the photos will not be of the highest quality.

⇡ S Pen

One of the main features first Galaxy Note at Samsung called the S Pen (Koreans insist: “This is not a stylus, it’s an S Pen!”) and, accordingly, a Wacom screen capable of working with this pen. The fact that many people never took the pen out of its seat while using the lampshade did not bother the Koreans - the Galaxy Note 2 also has an S Pen, supplemented and improved.

It’s worth starting with the fact that the pen itself has become thicker - now it’s as much as 8 mm in diameter (let’s call it a diameter, although the pen is not round in cross-section), so it’s almost comfortable to hold in your hands. At the press conference they said something about a rubber pad for additional convenience - but for some reason the S Pen we received did not have it. 1024 levels of pressure are recognized, while the original Note had only 16. However, it is difficult to determine the number of these gradations by eye.

Moreover, now the “shade” senses the presence of the pen, even if you do not touch the display, but only bring the S Pen to the screen at a distance of about half a centimeter. This feature is called Air View and has acquired some software support: for example, if you move the stylus to a small image in the gallery, it will enlarge slightly.

In general, hardware changes are a trifle compared to the number of software bells and whistles that were not in the first Note and which appeared in the second. If you list everything, you might accidentally write a second full-length article, so let’s go through the main ones.

1.Easy Clip- the ability to circle an arbitrary image on the screen, after which it is copied to the clipboard. From there it can be attached to, say, a letter. True, you won’t be able to paste it into Gmail - it only works with branded email Samsung customer. So this is, in general, an excellent feature that is not yet applicable everywhere, which is sad.

2. Gestures. There's a whole single button on the S Pen—and it's there for a reason. If you hold it down, the “plafond” begins to perceive a certain number of gestures. For example, going back - if you draw a squiggle of one shape, call up the menu - a squiggle of another shape. Actually, Easy Clip also refers to this kind of gesture. In addition to the above, you can take a screenshot by simply holding down the button, pointing the pen at the screen and holding it for a while. Well, one more possibility - by holding the pen with the button held down from the bottom up, you can call up the so-called quick commands menu.

3. Shortcuts. In fact, someone joked about “fast” ones. You must first move the pen across the entire screen, in the window that appears, draw a symbol to which this or that command is attached, for another second it will be recognized - and only after that the action that you wanted to perform will finally be completed. Provided, of course, that the gesture was recognized correctly. That is, in general it does not take that little time.

What’s convenient is that you can call up the quick command menu from anywhere; moreover, you can create commands yourself. For example, you can draw a note symbol and call the music player on it. True, it’s faster to call it by clicking on the corresponding icon, but Cool same. Some kind of macros are also supported - you can not only call up a message typing window, but also set who should send this message when you enter the appropriate command.

4. S Note. The S Note application existed in the previous generation of lamps, but in the current one it has acquired unprecedented functionality. Previously, it allowed, in fact, only to combine recognized handwritten text and pictures. Now, with its help, you can, say, recognize mathematical formulas. This can make life much easier for everyone who encounters them. Mathematicians will not let you lie: even in specialized computer program It takes several minutes to write down any double integral of non-weak length. Everything is done here in a matter of seconds.

5. Paper Artist. This application allows you to apply all kinds of filters to your photos, changing them beyond recognition and bringing more hipster pictures into the world. There are a lot of filters, all of them are fun, and you can use the S Pen to tint parts of the image, which adds another cute effect to one cute effect. You can also add a comment to the photo using the S Pen. Some may quickly get bored with this, while others will not be able to tear themselves away, flooding the entire Internet with such pictures.

There are many other features, both useful and not so useful. For example, if you remove the pen from the device, a corresponding menu for working with pen-based applications will appear on its screen. You can also configure the “shade” so that when you remove the S Pen, a small window with the S Note opens. These are useful features in their own way. Among the controversial features, there is, for example, this: if you bring the stylus up, the smartphone stops perceiving key presses and screen touches. Or this: when you pick up the S Pen, by inertia you poke it at everything, but the device’s touch buttons don’t work well with the pen—you have to put it down and press it with your fingers.

Nevertheless, in general, the functionality of the S Pen has increased by an order of magnitude: now its presence in a smartphone is justified and even somewhat convenient.

⇡Soft

Actually, we have already listed most of all the software delights of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 above. So let's not get carried away with a mouse on the tree. The updated “plafond” works immediately under Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This is a big plus, since many devices have been promising to update to the next version of the good green robot for years, but not all of them update. I don’t even want to talk about when these updates reach Russia and are localized.

Naturally, Android is equipped with TouchWiz, which, as we have already said, no longer slows down and therefore does not cause any irritation. The device is easily detected by the computer when connected, does not freeze, does not glitch, and generally behaves stably and correctly - I would like to tell you about some epic failures, but everything is so efficient that there is not even anything to talk about. Boredom.

Of course, the firmware contains a number of pre-installed programs, including demo versions of some toys. Of these, the most memorable is the wonderful game about combat robots. One of the arenas for multiplayer shootings in it is Moscow, and you are unlikely to see it anywhere like it is there. If you suddenly didn’t know, then in the Kremlin there is nothing except the Tsar Bell and four red stars in the corners, the Mausoleum was moved away from the Kremlin wall for greater safety, and about fifty meters from the Spasskaya Tower you can find Moscow University. Don't miss it - you'll be guaranteed a few minutes of healthy laughter.

⇡ Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 goes on retail sale on October 18 at a price of 29,990 rubles, and at the time of publication of this article, pre-orders of the device should open. If it seems that it costs an exorbitant amount, let us recall the price of the first Note at the start of sales - 34,990. The situation with competitors is simple - the 5-inch LG Optimus Vue has not really reached Russia, so the Note 2 will only compete with its predecessor, now still considerably cheaper.

The new “shade” is better than the old one in almost all respects: it fits more comfortably in the hand, it has an even larger screen, which is now free of the hated PenTile, the S Pen has finally become meaningful and functional, the hardware is faster, the battery is even better. more capacious. One cannot help but rejoice at the pre-installed Android 4.1, which will most likely appear on the first Note, but not in the very near future. The only disadvantages include the camera, which suddenly became worse, and the not entirely intuitive interface for working with the S Pen. Samsung has already learned how to make hardware and bug-free interfaces, but Koreans have yet to master the complex science of ergonomics.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 compared to Samsung Galaxy S III

If the concept of a huge phone is close to you, then today the Note 2 is the best device with a very large screen diagonal. If for you there is no difference between a giant screen and just a large one, then perhaps it is better to pay attention to the Samsung Galaxy S III - it will save almost 10 thousand, which, you see, is noticeable.

Pros:

Bright screen, great interface, great camera!

Minuses:

I haven’t found any disadvantages in my hundred so far.

General impression:

I've always been a fan of Samsung, but this is just MY phone. It works well and has everything you need, and the price is not high.

Pros:

Large and bright 5.5 inch screen. All applications work. Doesn't slow down.

Minuses:

Not much required applications, which take up space and cannot be removed without firmware. When playing games with a lot of weight, the top of the screen (camera area) gets very hot. At fully charged- the battery is not enough for the whole day to actively use this device.

General impression:

I bought this product for 27,000 as soon as it appeared on the shelves. Plus I purchased an additional 3 year warranty. If you do not take into account the disadvantages I outlined above, then I am completely satisfied with this device. But the fact that the battery is weak is a fact.
If you want to buy it, you won't regret it. But don't overload your phone's memory. unnecessary games and applications. And be sure to install an antivirus.

Minuses:

Good day to all! I bought a Galaxy note 2 in January of this year. I took it for work instead of a tablet, I used it from morning until evening without turning it off. After a couple of months of intensive use, I noticed dimming of the screen in the address area in the browser. I didn’t attach much importance to this and took the device to service center, the verdict is to replace the display under warranty. Please note (replacement of the display costs 9,000 rubles). A week later my phone was returned new display worked great! A couple of months later the same problem appears on the display! I take it to the service center again, the verdict is to replace the display! I asked why the same problem appeared, to which the master answered me “if the display is on for a long time and there are motionless icons on it, then the display crystals burn out in the shape of these icons, leaving light spots in their place” in my case this address bar browser. The master also said that this is a minus of these displays! Well, the phone is under warranty, otherwise you pay 9,000 rubles. for the manufacturer's unfinished display. If we exclude this nuisance, then I am happy with the phone!

Pros:

Minuses:

When purchasing, check the screen!!!

General impression:

Be careful when purchasing! I purchased the device yesterday, there was only 1 phone left in the store from the display case. Externally, the condition was perfect, the functions that I was able to check also worked. I was disappointed later; at home, when I removed the protective sticker from the screen, I discovered darkening on the screen that exactly repeated the inscriptions on the sticker. Having typed in the search engine - stains from a Samsung sticker - I realized that I was not the only one. As it turns out, the screen burns out in the display case from fluorescent lamps; in places where there are inscriptions on the stickers, it does not burn out. The chance to buy such a device is great; if you look at the availability in stores, almost everywhere there is a single copy on display!

To check your phone:
1 It’s natural to peel off the sticker, at least in the places where circles are drawn on the film (they mainly appear)
2 Turn the screen backlight to minimum.
3 Open an application on your phone (for example, an Internet browser, without an Internet connection) or a new note that will give an even color to the screen (preferably gray), or, as a last resort, take a photo of a white surface or sheet of paper with your camera and open the photo.
4 Look at the screen at an angle from different sides.

Some people write on forums that the darkening goes away, others write that they don’t. I didn’t wait and took the device to the service center at the barricade. We took the phone without any questions, now all we have to do is wait, most likely for the display to be replaced.

But in general, I really, really liked the smartphone.
Happy shopping!

Pros:

Very large and convenient screen. The charge lasts for 1.5 days with the agent turned on and always on the Internet. And without the Internet for several days. The feather is definitely a plus.

Minuses:

There are no cons!

General impression:

I chose the phone myself, my beloved husband gave it to me. I’ve been using it for 5 months now, and I haven’t regretted my choice for a second! I can’t part with it, it never ceases to amaze me with its features. Fits perfectly in your purse. Great phone!!!

Pros:

Very bright, beautiful, comfortable, equipped, I really liked it

Minuses:

Slippery and the wire is off charger short

General impression:

Very smart phone, high quality.

Pros:

Very good screen, the camera is excellent, but in a not very lit room it’s not very good, you can download a lot of applications and they all work, Samsung GALAXY Note 2 is better than SAMSUMG GALAXY S 4. I guarantee you. ;)

Minuses:

There are no cons)

General impression:

The product is simply excellent, but the price is simply killer!!!

Pros:

Big screen. I like exactly this. convenient to work with mail and chats. always in touch. It’s good that this is an Internet mobile phone and just switch to Wi-Fi. both the books and the photos and videos are good.

Minuses:

Many applications are not user-friendly. I downloaded new ones from the play market. After three weeks the screen began to darken. suddenly she didn’t. react to the finger and remove the lock. When you try to unlock the screen, it takes pictures of the main screen and sends them to the clipboard. You can only do something by taking out the pen. I just bought it and it already needs service. I'm shocked. inconvenient volume button. If I accidentally touch it, I turn off the sound and don’t hear the call. does not respond when typing. you have to press it several times. or prints one letter several times. To enlarge the text on the screen, you need to click five times.

General impression:

Expectations were met by a quarter.

Pros:

1. Great phone-tablet. For calls and on the Internet, it’s great, at first I wanted to buy two devices, then I saw Note 2 and thought, why? And one is enough, a cool tablet and smartphone!
2. The navigator works great, it replaces it completely, and the screen of the Samsa is larger than a regular navigator, and the quality of the screen cannot be compared. Lots of navigation programs, bought a cheap holder and off you go!
3. The processor is powerful, it pulls everything out without any problems, torrents download perfectly. Now I don’t download videos from my computer, everything is downloaded to my phone at once.
4. The screen is of normal size, almost a tablet, movies look good.
5. Front-camera decent, with routine speakerphone Skype is generally great. The microphone is good.

Minuses:

1. The accessories for it are very decent, I buy them from Chinese sites several times cheaper.
2. Very slippery, constantly pops out of the palm or stand, anyway you need a case, it is better to be able to install the device on its side - watch the video.
3. You need a good headset, the device is massive and holding it near your ear is not very comfortable.

General impression:

A universal device, a phone-tablet-navigator in one bottle, as they say!

Pros:

At the moment I don’t see a better gadget. ..

Minuses:

No cons. ..

General impression:

I've been using it for three months and haven't noticed any defects. .Just a request to buyers, do not buy products made in (Vietnam, India, China) - only Korea. .. .. .. Then you won't have problems.

Pros:

Screen! Awesome, big bright! The camera is super! Calls - Loud! Camera – photos – super! There are many programs, they are free, they are put on the map right away! Settings – many and easy! The instructions are superb, everything is written, in color and in Russian! You type the SMS yourself - you tell him - he writes!! Controlled by hand gestures! There is a stylus - and it has many different features! The sound can be adjusted in any way, both signal and vibration!!! There are plenty of programs and games! They're free! The battery does not discharge for a long time - absolutely great! Comfortable - fits perfectly into jeans! Fast – games fly! doesn't slow down! doesn't freeze! not buggy! won't reboot! doesn't turn off! Big! Games and movies look great!

Minuses:

General impression:

This amazing miracle phone was bought for me by my beloved dear mother!! For a birthday)! I turned sixteen yesterday! I’m absolutely delighted, I just can’t find the words, it’s some kind of fairy tale! And today we also bought a cool case! Branded Samsung! And my boyfriend brought me a small SIM card - everything worked! I'm happy!

Pros:

The main thing is a very capacious battery. With extremely intensive use, it lasts for the whole day. Two-hour operation of the navigator without recharging - I have never seen this on any smartphone. Charges from the original charger in two and a half hours. In the accelerated photo mode, you can take a series of twenty pictures in a row with absolutely no loss of quality. The screen has a special coating - it does not get dirty at all and there is no need for constant wiping. The sound of the speaker and bell is quite loud. Impressive overall performance and excellent connection speed. There is a slot for a memory card.

Minuses:

Screen. Fuzzy font and highlights at the top and bottom. At minimum brightness it begins to flicker like an ancient CRT monitor - your eyes become very tired after prolonged use. The software is a bit crude. The cable from the charger is quite short and difficult to insert into the phone connector. Need to purchase a cover.

General impression:

Raw software. Big size. Sometimes it reboots itself. Memory leaks. Pretty mediocre screen. The result is a device of very average quality.

Pros:

Stylish. Solid. Serious. Male. Serious. Very high quality assembly - no creaking, no play. Looks very cool, pleasant tactile sensations. The display is excellent, Amoled, the colors are pleasant and natural. Fast internet. Smooth. Excellent and loud sound. Cool speakers. There are many different interesting interesting things, the backlight does not turn off, the wallpaper animation does not slow down (two gigs of RAM after all). The display is large. Offline time without recharging – four hours (the navigator and recorder are spinning in the background). You put your palm to the display - it turns on, cool. Toys look very cool on this screen.

Minuses:

Since I bought the phone recently, I haven’t noticed it yet (I hope I never notice).

General impression:

After the shift htc one x on this smartphone - the old one seems tiny and like a toy. I also had an iPhone 4, this one is better. Having a pen is very convenient on the Internet and in general. I’ll sell my old phone to someone along with a tablet, now one smartphone is enough. The device is cool and has no competitors!

Pros:

High performance, capacious battery, quite good screen with a five-inch diagonal, functional S Pen.

Minuses:

The interface for working with the stylus-pen is not very clear, the camera is weak, the body is made of easily soiled glossy plastic.

General impression:

For me, the main drawback of the Note 2 is its size, which is quite large compared to the screen of the previous phone model; it is too big for my hand, so I can forget about working with one hand. I would like to note the very excellent build quality of the phone - there is no play anywhere, all the parts are very tightly fitted to each other, without any gaps. The text is very easy to read from the screen, I have poor eyesight and this is a very important fact for me. Since I have very poor eyesight, I consider it unnecessary to automatically adjust the screen backlight. The sound volume during calls is quite moderate, I am pleased with the increased operating time offline mode without recharging - the new battery is very decent. The quality of communication is also very good, the speed of file transfer via Bluetooth has increased. In general, the machine turned out to be very good, although I think the price is somewhat overpriced.

Since the announcement of the new Galaxy Note phablet, Note 2 owners or potential owners have probably wondered whether it's worth upgrading, or whether it's better to take advantage of the opportunity to buy a Note 2 at a discounted price when local sellers cut prices to clear out their warehouses. Let's compare the technical characteristics of 2013 and 2012 and find out whether the game is worth the candle.

Size

Both gadgets have the same height. However, with the new model, Samsung decided to focus on the thickness of the device and therefore made it one millimeter thinner. If we consider that the new product has a larger display diagonally, while maintaining, and in some places even reducing its dimensions, then the Galaxy Note 3 takes the lead here.

Another positive change that the new phablet model boasts is its reduced weight - the Galaxy Note 3 is about 7 percent lighter than Galaxy Note 2.

Frame

Perhaps the most significant external change the new model should be considered its body. Samsung decided to abandon traditional glossy plastic in the new Note 3 and uses artificial leather here. It's quite possible this is some new type of plastic covering, but at least now the device doesn't look "just plastic". We will leave the final conclusions for the time when we can touch the device with our own hands.

Display

Perhaps the biggest reason to buy the new Note 3 may be its display. It is seven percent larger than the old model, offers Full HD resolution and has 125 percent larger number pixels.

CPU

In fact, the Note 2 did not have any performance problems: its processor coped well with all the tasks assigned to it. But in the case of Note 3, performance promises to be even higher. The LTE version of the new product will be powered by a fast quad-core processor, and the HSPA+ version will receive a proprietary eight-core processor. In other words, the Galaxy Note 3 promises to be one of the fastest mobile devices for the rest of 2013.

RAM

The two gigabytes of RAM that are used in the Note 2 are more than enough for modern tasks. However, Samsung is looking to the future and offering as much as 3 GB of RAM in the new Note 3. This is the largest amount of RAM among all smartphones on the market.

Persistent memory

Samsung has decided to skip the 16GB storage version and is only offering two options on the new Note: either 32GB or 64GB. Considering how much the 16 GB version consumes, the set only standard applications, then abandoning the younger model may seem like a really wise decision.

Battery

Despite the fact that the Galaxy Note 2 already offers one of the best batteries on the market, Samsung not only promises a higher-capacity battery in the new Note 3 (3200 mAh versus 3100 for the Note 2), but also says that the display (despite the fact that it is larger) in the new device there is less "voracious". It will be interesting to find out how things will turn out during real tests.

Cameras

The main rear camera in the new device also received an update and now corresponds to 13 megapixel optical sensor, which is used in the Galaxy S4. The front camera of the new product is now 2 megapixel, and not 1.9 megapixel, like the Note 2.

Wireless capabilities

It’s stupid to compare the capabilities of devices in this category, because almost every top modern smartphone has, among other things, support for the LTE communication standard. The only exception is the Nexus 4, but its days are already numbered.

Software

The brand new Note 3 runs on the latest operating system (at least for now, until it appears) Android 4.3. Release 4.3 is promised for Note 2 too. According to latest rumors, this should happen this fall. The most important thing that Samsung added "under the hood" Jelly Bean operating system.

And here, as in the case of the Galaxy S4, there is a whole ton of different useful (and not so useful) applications along with the TouchWiz software add-on on top. And if everything is already clear to everyone with the Galaxy S4 and TouchWiz, then TouchWiz on Note 3 is of interest. And all because the device uses, among other things, the updated S Pen. And its full potential is revealed precisely in Note 3: the device allows you to create “active notes” by converting handwritten text (typed with an S pen) into printed text. Using the written commands, you can even call the desired number, find the desired address, add a contact or information in the search, and much more; "album of fragments" allows you to collect all the necessary information from different sources (websites, video services, galleries, etc.) and systematize it in one place, while maintaining links to the originals; function "instant comments" allows you to add a signature to any screenshot you just took; "S Finder" can be used as an advanced search for any information in the Note 3 memory. Search can be carried out by keywords, built-in filters (by date, file type, location). At the same time, you can search for information even if it is handwritten; function "window within a window" is perhaps the most obvious extension of the S Pen's capabilities. In this case, the electronic pen can be used not only for writing and editing drawings, but also for working with windows in multi-window mode. Using the stylus, draw the desired window size and open the application in it. Anything, be it a browser, YouTube application or calculator. At the same time, everyone else open source software will continue to work.

Conclusion

As expected, the new device is better than its predecessor in almost all respects. A new processor, increased in size and resolution, a richer screen with reduced dimensions, new software functions, new body after all.

So should you buy a new device as soon as it hits the shelves? If you are the owner of a Note 2, I personally would advise waiting for the first tests in real conditions and reviews from the very first buyers. If you just want to buy a new device and are choosing between Note 2 "Now" and Note 3 "Then", then the choice will also be complicated by the fact that stores will most likely in the very near future significantly reduce the cost of last year’s phablet, and the new product, in turn, will cost as much as 35 thousand. But speaking in general, the Note 3 already seems like a very worthy update to the line.
A source of information.

Just yesterday at IFA 2013 in Berlin it was announced new smartphone Galaxy Note line, only the third generation. Several months before its appearance, there were a huge number of rumors circulating on the Internet about of this smartphone. However, now it has arrived, we want to tell you whether the Galaxy Note 3 is much better than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 2.

Design and build

So, new Galaxy Note 3 has changed in appearance compared to its older brother. Samsung did not, as usual, make the smartphone entirely out of plastic. Back panel The smartphone is now made of plastic like artificial leather, making the phone more durable. At the same time, the skin is soft to the touch and you won’t have to worry about the Galaxy Note 3 accidentally slipping out of your hand. Well, the button layout is still standard.

In terms of size, the Galaxy Note 3 is literally 1 millimeter thinner than the Galaxy Note 2. At the same time, it is 15 grams lighter than the Galaxy Note 2. The weight of the latter is 168 grams.

If you look at the entire design, it certainly hasn’t changed dramatically. After all, the manufacturer is Samsung, and all its smartphones are similar to one another. Yes, you will find a plastic body, volume keys on the left side, and the power on/off button, as usual, is located on the right. At the bottom you will see a microUSB port, and at the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones.

Again, the design is pretty standard, even with the change in material back cover. Recently, many companies and even users have been saying that plastic cases are already old and look cheap compared to smartphones whose bodies are made of metal. As an example, HTC company decided to switch to metal cases in the flagship line. However, Samsung is not afraid to use plastic and uses it all the time in the production of its products. Despite the plastic body, the Galaxy Note 2 is a very durable phone indeed.

We dropped the Note 2 several times on purpose, and it held up well. He doesn’t care even for a drop of water or cement. Nothing happened to him, even when gravel fell on him.

This means that the new material that Samsung used for its Galaxy Note 3 brought the smartphone a clear improvement over the usual glossy plastic. Galaxy Note 3 itself looks more expensive and higher quality than Galaxy Note 2.

Display

It's time to move on to reviewing the display of the new smartphone. Galaxy Note 3 received a huge 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels. Moreover, the pixel density per inch is 368ppi. It goes without saying that this is a very high-quality display that produces vibrant and true-to-life colors.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 2 comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 267ppi. The huge display provides wide viewing angles. When it comes to overall colors, the Super AMOLED screen provides high saturation, bringing vibrant color to any image.

Of course, there are users who do not like AMOLED displays and prefer to choose smartphones whose screens reproduce more natural and natural colors. So the choice depends only on your desires.

Naturally, the Galaxy Note 3 again won the battle of displays, thanks to more high resolution, higher pixel density per inch.

Camera

The Galaxy Note 3, like the Galaxy S4, has a 13-megapixel rear camera. Despite this, the quality of photos taken on the Galaxy Note 3 is slightly better than on the Galaxy S4. Still, the photos on neither one nor the other device turn out fantastic. As for the camera application, it has received a number of new features and options.

Galaxy Note 2 still represents the technology of last year (after all, the Galaxy S4 was released in 2013, like the Galaxy Note 3). The resolution of its main camera is only 8 megapixels. But this does not prevent him from creating high-quality photographs, plus the camera captures a lot of detail and boasts excellent color rendition. However, in low light conditions the photos turn out too bad.

The Galaxy Note 3's camera app is packed with options and modes to help you take the perfect photo. As one might expect, these additional modes not yet available on Galaxy Note 2.

And here the Galaxy Note 3 comes out as the winner with its 13-megapixel camera, capable of taking good pictures even in low light conditions.

Battery

Galaxy Note 3 received lithium ion battery 3200 mAh capacity, which is not much more than the Galaxy Note 2. Although we are sure that the new latest generation smartphone contains many optimizations to improve battery life.

But the Galaxy Note 2 includes the same lithium-ion battery, only with a capacity of 3100 mAh. As you can see, they are not much different from each other. However, both of them have a huge capacity compared to the batteries that other smartphones are equipped with. Also, both smartphones have special options for energy saving.

Since the difference between the batteries of the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 2 is actually minimal, it's a tie here.

Hardware specifications

And here’s where the fun begins – we move on to looking at the insides of the two smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes in two models. The first model, a less powerful one with a Shapdragon 800 processor, will be sold in most countries. Here's a more powerful one Galaxy version Note 3 with Exynos Octa is only available in select markets.

So let's start with the model that is compatible with LTE networks. It includes a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with clock frequency 2.3 GHz.

But another version of the Galaxy Note 3 is powered by an eight-core Exynos Octa processor with a clock frequency of 1.9 GHz, however, according to its properties, the processor only supports 3G connections.

Both models received 3 GB of RAM, thanks to which they are able to easily and quickly perform many tasks, including in multi-window mode. Lastly, the Galaxy Note 3 comes with two types of internal storage – 32GB and 64GB. If this amount is not enough for you, you can always use a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 64 GB.

The Galaxy Note 2 is an equally impressive device. Inside it runs a quad-core Exynos 4412 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. Random access memory it has 2 GB. And here inner memory There are already three options - 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. It also has a microSD card slot.

It goes without saying that the Galaxy Note 2 is also a great smartphone, but the Galaxy Note 3 is much more powerful and faster. In general, there is a leap in technology over the year.

Software

You probably know that both Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones can work with a special S-Pen stylus. However, Galaxy Note 3 received special optimization for it, thanks to which it has now become much more convenient to use the stylus.

Still, the Galaxy Note 3 really received the latest technologies and capabilities, so the Galaxy Note 2 can’t catch up with it. In addition, there is actually a noticeable difference in the speed of the Galaxy Note 3 and its predecessor.

Another very interesting area is the interfaces that Samsung equips many of its devices with. Only in the case of two tablet phones, there was a battle between Touchwiz and Touchwiz. Of course, again the difference is that the Galaxy Note 3 uses newer and more modern technologies, which means the interface itself has received additional functions. Among the latest applications there are such as My Journal, several applications for the S-Pen, Air Command, etc.

In addition, the Galaxy Note 3 features smart notifications, useful feature Smart Stay, Smart Alert and much more.

While the Galaxy Note 3 is running Android platforms 4.3 Jelly Bean, Galaxy Note 2 still runs on OS Android systems 4.2.

In general, the Galaxy Note 3 succeeded here again. If you work with two smartphones at once - Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 2, you can see a real difference in the speed of the systems.

Conclusion

It's surprising how much difference there is between the Galaxy Note 3 and the second-generation Galaxy Note. Even if we compare the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S3, there is not such a huge gap between them. If you're a fan of large displays, then you'll undoubtedly love the Galaxy Note 3.
