Disassembly of iPad mini 2. Self-disassembly of the Apple iPad Mini tablet. iPad Mini repair prices

While its older brother was downsizing, the iPad mini new version on the contrary, it increased in size to accommodate the following:

  • 7.9 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 326 pixels/inch
  • Dual-core A7 CPU with 64-bit architecture and 1 GB RAM
  • M7 motion tracking coprocessor
  • Rear 5MP iSight camera with 1080p video recording and front camera 1.2 megapixels with 720p video recording
  • 802.11n dual-channel Wi-Fi MIMO
  • Supports memory cards of 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB

Step 2

We like to start looking at items with their ID number. Today's is A1489. A unique model number for a unique device. High performance pocket Apple computers acquire unusual new colors: “Space Gray”. And we note that the iPad mini is still small enough to fit in one hand.

Step 3

We've never opened an iPad Mini with Retina Display before, but we think we can handle it. A little effort and we open the front panel of the iPad. As you can see here there is a ridiculously small amount of glue.

Step 4

We are starting to remove the nominal update to this Mini: the Retina Display. Compared to last year's, this one has added 0.3mm due to the introduction of additional pixels and, perhaps, this is a significant difference compared to, for example, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 inches, which is only 7.8 mm thick, but has an incredibly simple introductory procedure and a maintainability score of 7 out of 10.

Step 5

It looks like Apple saved money this time. The 16 screws in the previous iPad Mini's LCD screen plate must have been considered excessive; now we count only 7. Otherwise, it is very similar to the previous one, there are even places left for now outdated screws, pay attention to this when buying spare parts for Apple in bulk. We disconnect the bracket to release the LCD along with the cable channel.

Step 6

There were rumors about large quantities problems associated with the introduction of updates to the "Mesh Display", and that this greatly reduces performance, slowing down the new Mini. This is quite interesting. Let's see.

Our little Retina has an LG display driven by the Parade DP675 LCD driver, which was also found in iPad Air. There are also TI TPS65143A and a pair of TI TPS65195, most likely the power supply for LCD ICs.

While "Mini" is typically used to denote devices with reduced functionality, this version of the iPad offers a 2048 x 1536 resolution - exactly the same as the iPad Air. The same resolution on a smaller screen means improved pixel density - 326 ppi on the Mini compared to 264 ppi on the Air. Regarding the display resolution, it turns out that the Mini is not a stripped-down version at all, but quite the opposite.

Step 7

Let's move on. We're not surprised to find dual controllers here touch screen Broadcom BCM5976 – These are used in several Apple products, including the iPad Air and iPhones 5 and 5s. Just great news for suppliers of spare parts for mobile and tablets!

Step 8

Finally we reach the iPad battery. And here's what it says: 3.75V, 24.3Whr, 6471mAh - a huge blow to the 16.3Whr batteries seen in the previous Mini. It seems that we have found the reason for the increase in the size of the Retina version. Despite these new specifications, Apple still lists battery life at 10 hours. And we suspect the new battery capabilities are aimed at supporting the performance of the updated display.

Step 9

The new battery design, now created in 2 cells, means more glue, more connecting links and requires more force on our part to rip that iPad battery out of the device. Well, as always, we managed to do it.

Step 10

Let's put the battery aside and continue digging into the remaining components of the tablet. Let's move on to the front camera first. It's still listed as 1.2 megapixel, 720p and labeled 821-1752-A.

On the back is a regular 5-megapixel camera. The camera's actual spec sheet states that it now has stabilization, which is great for us, but may be disappointing for the dozens of people who are used to enjoying the photos they take with their iPad.

Step 11

Now we can easily remove the headphone jack. The tiny ICs around the headphone jack appear to be an audio frequency amplifier. Exactly the same as was found in Air. But we have no idea who produced it. It’s very good when there are two different versions iPads use the same components, which saves a lot of money when purchasing spare parts from Apple in bulk.

Step 12

Building on Formicidaean's design for the iPad Air, the Mini has increased Wi-Fi efficiency by adding two antennas.

Step 13

So, we have only one component left. Last year's only Wi-Fi Mini had a blank space at the end of the logic board - just a flat space where the cellular chips were in the CDMA/GSM version. The Retina Mini board has a sleek outline instead. I'd like to hope this is just a cool weight-saving maneuver from Apple, because the other alternatives that come to mind are scary. We also notice the USI 339S0213 Wi-Fi module, which we saw in the iPad Air.

Step 14

  • Apple A7 APL0698 SoC - This is the same part number as seen on the iPhone 5s, as opposed to the hotrod version of the 1.4GHz iPad Air. Great, we buy spare parts for cell phones wholesale and supply them to restored iPad Minis.
  • A7 LPDDR3 DRAM Elpida 1 GB F8164A1PD
  • NXP LPC18A1 (Apple M7 motion coprocessor)
  • Toshiba THGBX2G7B2JLA01 16 GB NAND flash
  • B334 STMicro MEMS accelerometer/gyroscope, same as seen in iPad Air. Notice that there are a lot of similarities with this Air.

Step 15

More chips because we love chips. We open spare parts catalogs on Apple wholesale and check:

  • Apple 338S1213 Cirrus audio codec
  • Apple 338S1199 - likely a pair of audio amplifiers similar to the Apple 338S1077 found in the previous iPad mini
  • Apple 343S0656-A1
  • Fairchild semiconductor FDMC6676BZ and MOSFET FDCM6683

Step 16

iPad repairability Mini Retina Display: 2 out of 10 (where 10 is the easiest to restore).

  • The LCD and glass are not glued together and can be replaced independently. This is convenient and big savings when purchasing spare parts for Apple in bulk.
  • The battery is not soldered to the logic iPad board or other components.
  • Tiny screws can get lost or get mixed up and put back out of place.
  • The glue binds too many components together - front glass, battery, front camera, rear camera, ribbon cables - making it extremely difficult to repair.
  • The Lightning connector is soldered onto the logic board and therefore do not bend its pins.
  • You will need to be extremely careful during disassembly when attempting to remove internal components as there are hidden screws.

Poor repairability, but an incredible benefit for iPad mini 2 parts suppliers. There will probably be 5-10 modules suitable for both iPhone and iPad of various versions. Buy wholesale spare parts for cell phones and tablets from our company on favorable terms.

From within? How does it work? The first to try to answer these questions were the guys from iFixit, who, as always, managed to get hold of a new product even before the start of sales. They showed how easy the process of disassembling a mini tablet can be. Even for a beginner, it will take just a few minutes, without any risks to the device itself. Moreover, in terms of complexity iPad disassembly mini received a low rating. You just need to know some nuances...

First, warm up the front panel of the device. To do this, you can use such improvised means as, for example, a regular hair dryer or battery. The creatives at iFixit use own development- iOpener heating pad.

Now carefully lift the display and begin to open the device from the top. In the lower right corner you will come across the first obstacle - the touchpad cable.

Just take it off touchpad Not possible because of this loop. It is necessary to remove the screen, but its screws are well hidden, so you should find them first. When you open the screen, you will see a solid metal plate. It is held on by 16 screws, which are not so easy to unscrew, be patient!

Once you have completed this difficult task, you will be rewarded for your patience! Now you can easily completely disassemble the device by disconnecting its parts.

Carefully remove the plate behind which the touchpad cable is located, and you will find a part of the motherboard with a Murata 339S0171 WIFI module.

Then disconnect the cable.

The last thing that continues to hold the screen with the body are two adhesive tapes. Peel them off carefully.

The first stage is over, the screen is disconnected!

Please note: the display has a separate circuit board behind the plate and adhesive tapes.

Now you can breathe a sigh of relief and move on to the battery. Use a regular plastic card to carefully peel it off the case.

The device instructions indicate energy characteristics batteries are 16.3 Wh, although in fact it is 16.5 - 16.9 Wh at a voltage of 3.72 - 3.78 Volts and a capacity of 4400 - 4440 milliamp-hours.

By disconnecting the cable, you can remove the touch panel. At the bottom of the mini tablet are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas. They are attached to stereo speakers. We film them too.

There is no way you can remove the Lighting connector, because it is an integral part of the motherboard. The main thing is not to damage this connector, otherwise it will have to be replaced with the motherboard!

Pre-unscrew the motherboard so that it can be removed.

But that's not all. It is not yet possible to remove the main board; warming up is necessary again.

After warming up, carefully pry up the board and remove it. Now you can see what the motherboard looks like from the inside.

So, you have reached the A5 processor, as well as the main “filling”. Flash memory is highlighted in orange - a 16 GB Hynix H2JTDG8UD2MBR module. Green is the Apple 338S1116 audio controller manufactured by Cirrus.

The last thing left to do is to remove the cable with the microphone, mini-jack and FaceTime camera. Pre-heat it from the back side, only then can it be removed.

Congratulations, you did it! It is no coincidence that the complex and at the same time simple system for disassembling the iPad Mini, according to iFixit, receives only two points out of ten - the level of complexity does not require special practical skills. If you don’t want to or are afraid to disassemble the iPad Mini, then contact a specialized service.

Some day iFixit You won’t need to use all your connections to get hold of and disassemble the next Apple gadget before sales start. Someday they will be included in the list of especially close ones, they will be invited to presentations, and immediately afterwards they will be given free pre-sale copies of the devices. Apple will take such a step without fear, since by then it will be impossible to disassemble the devices without damaging them. MacBook Pro with Retina, aka with 13 inches, now -... Everything is leading to this.

Model number is A1432.

No, this is not a tablet pillow. This is a new creation from iFixit - a heating pad specifically for opening the iPad! You heat it up in the microwave and then place it on top of the edges of the device. The glue between the display and the case melts, you carefully insert several supplied mediators, use plastic tools... In a word, you remove the touch panel in no time. And, yes, this is sarcasm.

It's funny that at this stage the touch panel can be moved slightly to the side of the display, and it will still remain operational (like the display itself). Funny, but worrisome: will dust get between them?

The iPad mini opens up like a book with pages stuck to each other. The touch panel cannot be removed, since its cable goes under the display on the main part. This means that the display should be removed, but its screws are insidiously hidden.

Inside, the next “page” is found, namely, a metal shielding plate the entire length and width of the mini. This panel is attached to 16 screws A real test for even the most diligent repairman.

This is where the analogy with the book is best seen. The case and touchpad are the cover, and the display and plate are two pages. Only at this stage can you begin to take something out of the case.

The panel cable goes under the plate. Record, goodbye.

Here is the edge of the motherboard with the Murata 339S0171 Wi-Fi module.

The connector is disconnected, but the display is still held in place by adhesive tapes along the bottom. There's a Lightning connector hiding in there somewhere...

The display is disconnected! In terms of its simplicity Apple replacements beat Amazon and ASUS (did you know that Nexus 7 is made by ASUS?). But this is just the beginning.

The display has its own board, however, it is hidden under adhesive tapes and another plate.

Display board:
Red - Samsung W1235 S6TNMR1X01 hardware driver. This means that the display is also made by Koreans;
Orange and yellow - go and find out.

iFixit are taken for the battery. The connector design is inherited from the large iPad.

This is a 1-cell battery, and the easiest way to peel it off from the case is with a plastic card. It's better not to rush.

Different markings in different places batteries report different values. The voltage “fluctuates” from 3.72 to 3.78 volts, the energy characteristic is from 16.5 to 16.9 watt-hours, and the capacity is from 4400 to 4440 milliamp-hours. Apple's official specifications contradict everything, stating 16.3 Wh. They got smart.

Close to each of the two speakers are laid WiFi antennas and Bluetooth. The speakers themselves are mounted on Very small screws.

The size of a speck of dust. Next to it is a standard oversized screw from the iPhone 5.

An attempt to remove Lightning even with the screws unscrewed is doomed to failure: the connector is an integral part of the motherboard.

The board is still not accessible - firstly, because of the cable with the volume buttons and the Power key...

...secondly - because of the glue. Here you can’t get by with a heating pad; you have to blow with an industrial hair dryer from the back. The aluminum panel gets so hot that it becomes impossible to hold it. iFixit has silicone pads at the ready.

It's scary to peel off the board without seeing what you're putting the tool under.

Fortunately, it later turns out that there is nothing on that side - the board is one-sided.

The A5 chip is the undisputed record holder for the number of devices in which it is installed. iPad 2, iPhone 4S, Apple TV 3rd generation, iPod touch and iPad mini - A5 everywhere. RAM? According to the markings, 512 megabytes.

Chipworks kindly provided a detailed diagram of the crystal superimposed on the photo in highest resolution. At least put it on your wallpaper, it’s clickable:

The question of how to open an iPad at home, that is, disassemble the device, interests many users. There are many instructions on the Internet on how to do this. But not all of them tell the truth about how to properly disassemble the device. Today we will talk about the iPad and how to open the lid on it and, in general, how to navigate the “stuffing”.

If when disassembling Apple smartphones the processes do not differ much depending on the model, then with tablets everything is different. Although the difference is not so significant, there are still nuances that you need to know.

Let’s say that to remove the display of a second iPad, you only need a metal spatula. But in newer tablet models this element is glued. Here you will need a hairdryer to soften the adhesive masses.

Other tools you will need are suction cups for removing glass, Phillips screwdrivers, a plastic spatula, and more.

But let's not get hung up on the little things, let's talk about how to change the back cover on the iPad - how to disconnect it, remove it, etc.

When doing the procedure on the iPad 2, we simply poke the display with a metal spatula. And we lead her around the entire perimeter. In the iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini and others, as noted above, everything happens differently than in tablet two. There you will have to work hard to heat the element. But we will consider the operation using the example of the second model.

The element on it can be easily removed from the back of the case. It is important here not to make sudden movements and always remember that the screen is connected to the back with a cable.

When opening the iPad to replace a part (for example, it could be back cover), proceed with extreme caution, as all parts are very fragile.

So, the tablet is divided into 2 parts. You can start removing the elements that the back cover holds. Further, the process will be the same for the iPad Air, and for the iPad mini, and for other tablet models. There are not very many parts in the main assembly without 3G. The first thing we see is a fairly large battery. It is for the iPad mini and iPad Air, and for all other devices it takes up most of the internal space. And also – unallocated space intended for the 3G module.

A new step would be to remove the display data cable. This element is removed in 2 stages - first of all, the latch is removed, and then the cord itself is removed from the connector.

Removing the "motherboard"

So, the cover for the iPad, or rather, removing it is not a problem. This is easy to do for the iPad mini, and for the Air, and for all other models. But only in more modern devices the process is complicated by the fact that heating of the elements is required. With the second model everything is much simpler. But it is better, of course, to avoid repairing the device altogether and handle it with care. For example, buy a protective case.

It's time to disconnect the motherboard. It is attached to the back of the device using screws. The element is hidden thanks to protective electromagnetic shields that can be removed very easily.

The A 4 processor from Samsung was installed in the configuration of the second tablet. The flash memory element is also not from the Apple company, but from a Korean manufacturer.

In devices from Apple until 2012, that is, before the fifth line iPhone, a 30-pin wide connector was used. In the second gadget it is secured with just one single screw. After disconnecting the cord, you will notice that a WiFi/Bluetooth 802.11n board is embedded in the element.

We remove the battery and other elements

The next step will be to remove the battery. It is a lithium-ion cell with a voltage of 3.75 W. This provides it with a fairly high capacity.

After removing the battery, there will only be an antenna and a hole for headphones on the cover. It is located near the company symbol – an apple. To remove the antenna, you will again need the help of a spatula. We did the same in the situation with the display.

Next, remove a few more screws, and the headphone slot and microphone will be disconnected. These elements are connected by a single cable. Interestingly, there is a moisture indicator on the headphone hole. And if the device stops working due to moisture getting inside the case, the company will almost 100% refuse the user warranty repairs. You'll have to shell out a tidy sum to repair your favorite tablet.

As in the situation with smartphones, having disassembled all the elements on the back of the device, let’s move on to removing the monitor from its front side. For this purpose, unscrews many small screws. Afterwards, carefully pry up the display and disconnect it from the plastic frame. It is important to remember here that the elements are glued to each other. Therefore, their separation is carried out with the utmost care. It is important not to harm fragile elements. At this step, disassembling the tablet can be considered complete.

Removing the display from iPad 4

Regarding this tablet model and newer versions, it is not easy to remove the screen from them. This element is adhesive and to remove it you will need a hair dryer and plastic mediators. When heating the display mounting frame, you need to act with extreme care so that the adhesive masses soften. To prevent the screen from re-gluing, we use mediators.

After the adhesive mixtures have warmed up thoroughly and the mediators have been placed around the entire perimeter, we take suction cups to remove the glass element. Next, we get rid of the screws securing the front to the back and remove the display. Here it is very important not to forget about the trains and not to do anything with sudden movements.

All other actions will differ little from the disassembly operation previous version tablet But there are several nuances, let’s look at them in more detail.

Disconnecting the motherboard on the iPad 4

The main differences between the four and previous models are the motherboard and the Lightning connector. The motherboard version for Tablet 4 was developed based on the A6 processor from the fifth iPhone. In earlier iPad models, chips were protected using metal plates. And here the chip is welded.

The four's motherboard also has:

  • The red chip is A6X with a 2-core processor at 1.4 GHz.
  • Orange – 16 GB flash memory element.

Regarding Lightning, it first appeared in the fifth smartphone. It replaced the usual connector used by the Apple company in all earlier models of its gadgets.

For increased security, the connector is glued. And not just screwed on. In this regard, to disconnect it you will need a hairdryer to correct the adhesive masses.

That's all the main points. It would seem that it is very easy to carry out the procedure at home, but it is still recommended to do it at home only in extreme cases. In case of any problem, it is better to immediately contact a repair shop. We especially do not recommend delving into the “stuffing” of the device for those who do not have such experience in communicating with technology.

During service, devices often fail. This also applies to gadgets Apple. Although they are famous for their high reliability, they still sometimes break down. In such a situation, there are two options: repair it yourself or take it to a service center. The first option is best used only if you are confident in your skills. The second option is suitable for anyone, especially if the iPad mini is not yet out of warranty.

If you decide to disassemble the tablet yourself, then you need to stock up on the necessary tools and prepare the gadget for disassembly. In order to disassemble the iPad mini you will need: a screwdriver (a clockwise one, or better yet a pentagonal one), a special hair dryer, a piece of plastic (a telephone card will do), small tweezers (eyebrow correction pliers will also work). You can prepare the device itself by simply wiping it and turning it off. Be sure to disconnect the charger if it is connected.

Disassembling the iPad mini

The case is assembled without screws, which will surprise you if you haven't noticed it before. These tablets use glue for fastening. This is where a hairdryer comes in handy. Turn it on and start warming up the screen around the perimeter. Do not enter the main work area; overheating may damage the display.

When the edges of the screen are well heated, the frame will begin to move a little. At this moment, you need to carefully pry it off with the card. Pieces of plastic must be inserted between the body and frame in several places. Next, run the plastic around the entire perimeter.

Having passed the entire perimeter, the frame will move away and can be removed. When the frame is removed, you can unscrew the display. The screws that secure it are hidden under the plugs, there are 16 of them. Look for the plugs and remove them. Set them aside in one pile so that nothing gets lost during assembly. You can put them in a saucer. Now remove the exposed screws. They should also be put in a pile next to the plugs.

It is not possible to remove the matrix right away; it is connected to the board with a cable. First you need to unscrew metal screen. After you have removed it, you can unscrew the small metal plate. It is attached with three screws and has an irregular shape. Set the screws aside to avoid loss or confusion. Now you need to carefully disconnect the cable using a plastic spatula or card.

Next, a little surprise awaits you in the form of two strips of tape. Gently pick them up with tweezers and peel them off. The display can now be moved to the side. If the breakdown of the gadget is a faulty screen, then replace it with a new one and proceed to assembly. If the “Home” button is faulty, then you can replace it with a working one and start assembling the tablet.

If not, then move on to the next step. The next stage of disassembly is removing the built-in battery. To disconnect it, you need to disconnect the cable and peel off the tape where necessary. Now slide the plastic under the battery and lift it up around the perimeter. It is also attached with glue. Once she has completely moved away, she can be pulled out.

It's time for modules. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas are located at the bottom of the case. They are attached next to the speakers. Here you can also find the touchpad. Lightning connector is part motherboard, and you won’t be able to disconnect it. Be especially careful with it, otherwise if you damage it, you will need to replace the motherboard.

All that remains is motherboard. It is attached with glue and to remove it, you will have to use a hairdryer again. Take the body in your hand using a potholder or a cloth folded in several layers. This is necessary so that you can hold the tablet while it heats up; it will be hot. Now, from the back side, heat the place where the motherboard is attached until it comes off.

Now you know how to disassemble a Mini tablet and can replace the broken part with a new one. There is no need to completely disassemble the gadget if the part that has failed is the “Home” button. After replacement, in order to reassemble the device, follow all the steps described above, but in reverse order. Gluing parts can be done using double-sided tape of different widths. Or you can use one width, gluing it in two rows if necessary.

You can purchase a special iPad repair kit. It does not have a special hairdryer, but it does have a specific pad. It can be heated in the microwave and placed on the edge of the display in order to peel off the frame. When assembling the screen and touch glass, wipe the parts well with a lint-free cloth. It is important that there are no dust particles or fingerprints left between them.

This instruction is not suitable for everyone Mini models, for example, 4 has a slightly different structure. If you are not sure that you can fix the gadget yourself, it is better to take it to a repair center. Of course it costs money, but it's better to pay for installation new part than later paying for a larger tablet repair.
