How to save bookmarks by reinstalling the Chrome browser. Creating a backup of bookmarks in the Google Chrome browser. How to sync bookmarks in Google Chrome

Hello friends!

In this article I want to talk about how to save bookmarks to Google browser Chrome.

But, before moving on to the main issue, a small digression. My observations show that most Internet users simply do not know that you can bookmark sites you like and create a catalog of favorite links. For such users, there is no question of saving them. They only know search engines Yandex or Google.

The other group is more advanced, and saves links to pages that interest them, but does not think about saving them, since such an operation is usually required when reinstalling the system, and this is the next level of advancement.

But if you are reading this blog, then you are interested in the topic of website creation and what is reinstalling Windows, you know firsthand.

And so, Windows OS is the most popular operating system, but it is not without its shortcomings, and when actively working with the computer, you gradually notice that it begins to “slow down”, “freeze” and no “cleaning” or “treatment” helps. In this case, you have to move on to radical measures - reinstalling the OS. This operation itself does not take much time; it takes much longer to install and configure the necessary programs.

In some cases this problem can be solved using the program Acronis True Image. For example, at my work in computer class 10 workstations, plus about twenty more. By using Acronis True Image I made an image once hard drive with all the settings and installed programs, and now at the beginning of the school year I restore the entire system in a few minutes after being bullied as best we could for a year. By the way, it’s a good idea to have such an image in case of an unforeseen emergency. If you are interested in working with the program in more detail Acronis, write in the comments.

But I have never had to restore my personal work computer in this way. The fact is that after a year or two of work software changes noticeably, and the saved image simply becomes outdated. You have to install the system and programs again.

How to optimize this process so that you spend less time on it? How to save program settings that are convenient for you? For example, I wrote about using , and it would be a shame if after reinstalling everything had to be configured again.

Therefore, I decided to write several articles on how to save program settings and transfer them to either new computer, or on PC after Windows installations. I decided to start with a popular browser Google Chrome.

So, let's start with the simplest thing.

How to create a bookmark?

If you liked the site and want to return to it, then click on the star in address bar browser. In the window that opens, you can select a folder to save; folders can be created by organizing a certain structure. Now, if you want to reopen this page, click on the icon and a list of all saved bookmarks will open. If you wish, you can open the bookmark manager ( Bookmarks – Bookmark Manager), and make changes to the structure.

How to save bookmarks as a file

To do this, we again go to Bookmarks, open Bookmark Manager, press the button Control and select the item Export bookmarks. We indicate the location where the HTML file will be saved and give it a name (you can leave the default bookmarks_…….html). Now, if you have reinstalled the system and want to return your favorites to your favorite Google Chrome, again go to Bookmarks, and now select the item Import, indicate our saved file and click Ok. That's it, the links are back in place.

An HTML file with links can be stored on a flash drive and carried with you. If you often have to work on other people's computers, this is convenient. If not to a flash drive, then you can send it to some cloud service Internet, for example, Mail.ru. In this case, you will always have access to your links.

Method 2. Synchronizing settings

This method has certain advantages, primarily because not only links are saved, but also all settings and additions to the browser. In addition, this state can be synchronized with your other devices - tablet, mobile phone etc.

To synchronize, you need to have a Google account. Get one if you don't already have one.

Now you need to sign in to Chrome. To do this, in the browser control panel, select Settings and press the corresponding button. You will be asked to enter your Google account information. Now you can enable synchronization. In this case, you can save all the data, or you can select only some items.

Now you don't have to worry about reinstalling Windows. It is enough to synchronize again after it, and your browser will return to its original state.

If several people work at the computer (brother, sister, wife...), then for each you can create your own user with individual settings and favorites. For this purpose again Settings find the button Add a new user. Now a button to switch between users will appear at the top.

When working on someone else's computer, you can also create a new user, synchronize and work in the same way as on your workplace. The main thing is not to forget to delete the created profile.

I think now you understand everything about how to save bookmarks and settings in Chrome.

In the next article I will write about similar operations in the browser Mozilla Firefox, subscribe to updates so as not to miss new articles.

If you are planning to reinstall the system and want to format the system hard section disk, then you will definitely face the problem of saving important information. With files and programs, everything is simple: files are transferred to another drive, and programs are easy to install in new system again. But what about bookmarks in the browser?

Let's say you use Google Chrome and often save pages you need to favorites so you can quickly open them when needed. When you reinstall the system, the browser will be deleted, as will all pages saved in it. The question arises - how to save bookmarks in Chrome?

There are several ways to do this when reinstalling Windows:

  • Export and import HTML file.
  • Synchronization.
  • Google Bookmarks service.

Let us consider in detail each of these methods so that you can choose the most suitable and easy-to-use option for yourself.

Export and import

Exporting bookmarks means saving them on your computer in the form HTML file.

Keep copies on a partition that will not be affected when you try to install Windows 10 or another version operating system. If in doubt, transfer the resulting HTML file to a flash drive or external hard drive.

How to create an HTML file with the required data:

Google Chrome bookmarks have been saved - now you can transfer them to any browser. To return them to Chrome after reinstallation:

After completing the described steps, the “Import Completed” folder will appear in the manager, in which the pages you added will be stored. You can transfer the data you need to other folders, and delete the “Import Done” directory to make it more convenient to navigate the list of favorite pages.

With these convenient tools you can transfer your bookmarks to another computer and add them to the browser there.

If you set up an express panel in Google Chrome using extensions and added the necessary pages to it, they will not be saved. Using the method described above, only those pages that were pinned to the bookmarks bar by clicking the asterisk in the browser address bar are exported.

Therefore, your solution will be to transfer all pages from the express panel to the list of favorite sites by clicking the “Add to bookmarks” button.

Synchronization

The method described above is only suitable for saving pages that you have added to your favorites list (that is, clicked on the star next to the site URL in the browser address bar).

The main convenience of using synchronization is maximum automation of the process. You simply log into the browser using your account and all your actions are automatically projected onto other browsers that are logged into your account. All you need is a registered Gmail account. Let's take a closer look at how this works:

Simply put, you can now open Google Chrome on any computer and log in to your account using your email Gmail. The main thing is that synchronization is configured on your main computer. By the way, about the setup. After authorization, the button “ Additional options synchronization". When you click on it, you will see the following window:

In principle, you can leave all the settings at their defaults, but you may want to experiment with what data you want to sync.

If you no longer need syncing, you can stop it by disabling your Chrome account.

A notification will appear on the screen stating that no more data will be synchronized, however, all information that is already stored in the account will remain there until you delete it through your personal account.

What does this mean? Nothing, unless you had something in your bookmarks that you wanted to keep secret. If you do not want your personal information to be stored on Google servers, then it is better to clean up your account.

The duration of account cleanup depends on how much information was synchronized through it. If you have few bookmarks and extensions, then you won’t have to wait at all – deletion will happen instantly.

Google Bookmarks

If you don’t have many bookmarks, you can save them using another special Google service, the name of which directly speaks to its purpose. So, “Google Bookmarks”: you cannot automatically import the necessary data here, so all pages will have to be added manually.

To use the service you need Google account(Gmail mail).

How does this work:

If necessary, you can change the entered information or delete unnecessary pages. Here you can also use the export function described above to then import bookmarks into other web browsers.

For quick access Bookmarks are used for visited pages. Have you ever thought about the question: what to do so as not to lose important information, when reinstalling the system? Or maybe the browser stopped working and you have to install it again? Let's look at how to save bookmarks in Google Chrome.

What to do

Don't wait until the browser stops working. Save your bookmarks in advance. Do not leave them on the disk where the OS is installed. Use a flash drive for this. Then import them.

What is it

How to transfer

We looked at how to save Google Chrome bookmarks. Let's look at how to transfer them. Click the “Settings” - “Bookmarks” - “Manager” button. Next “Manage” - “Import”.
Select the file with copies and click the “Open” button.

Now you can reinstall Google Chrome without saving your bookmarks.
This method will not save visual bookmarks (the page where they are collected), and the bookmarks bar (the display of sites at the top of the screen).

How to save the bookmarks bar

Use synchronization. The advantage of this method is that everything will be saved on the Google server. When working on another PC, or after reinstalling the browser, you will only need to log into your account. To do this, you must have a Google account. If it doesn't exist, create it mailbox. Next, synchronization will occur. Chrome will save bookmarks and . Exactly the same settings as on the main browser will appear.

In cases of PC failure or browser deletion, the bookmarks will be saved because they will remain in your Google account. Passwords, extensions, themes and settings are also synchronized.

How to save visual bookmarks

Click “Management” (three vertical dots), then “Settings”.
In the “Users” section, select “Synchronization.” When you log in for the first time, enter your username and password for Google mail. Click on the button in the form of a triangle to determine the data that will be synchronized.

I recommend setting “Sync everything”.

Conclusion

If you are used to working in an Internet browser with a large number of different sites, and every time you sit down at your computer, you search for the ones you need and open them in tabs, then this takes a lot of time. Especially if these are constantly the same sites, and you have to open more than 10 of them.

Keeping open tabs by changing browser settings

To do this, in Google Chrome, click on the button with the image of three horizontal stripes in the upper right corner and select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.

Here we will be interested in the “Open at startup” section. You need to put a marker in the “Previously” field open tabs».

Now, you can safely shut down work in Chrome, even if you have several open various pages. The next time you launch it, they will all be in place, and you can immediately start working with them without wasting time searching.

Another way to avoid losing everything you have open in Chrome after you decide to close it is to pin them to the appropriate panel.

To do this, right-click on the desired tab and select “Pin tab” from the drop-down list.

All those pages that have been pinned appear at the top left of the browser. They only show the site logo. After you close Google Chrome and then return to working with it, all pinned sites will be in place.

Save tabs by customizing the bookmarks bar

If you like to bookmark sites, then you can use the bookmarks bar to quickly access the necessary pages on the Internet.

The bookmarks bar is located immediately below the search bar. If it is not displayed for you, then you need to enable it.

Go to the browser menu again and click on the “Settings” button.

Now you can add all the pages that you often open in the browser to the bookmarks bar. To do this, go to the desired one, right-click on the bookmarks bar and select “Add page” from the list.

Now close the browser, because you have saved everything that was open. When you return to working with it, you can either open the necessary pages from the bookmarks bar one at a time, or right-click on it and select “Open all bookmarks” from the list to open everything in new tabs.

Another convenient way to save frequently visited sites - this is the setting visual bookmarks. They look like thumbnails with an image of the site and its name, and are hyperlinks. That is, by clicking on the one you need, you will immediately go to the required page on the Internet.

You can add the pages you need to the panel and group them into folders at your discretion. You can have a panel with visual bookmarks, or have them open when you open a new tab.

Save all open sites to your visual bookmarks bar, and the next time you open your browser, get quick access to them.

Save tabs when closing the browser by installing an extension

If you need to close Chrome, but still need to save open pages, you can use the One Tab extension for this.

Find it in the Chrome Web Store and install it in your browser. Once installed, the extension icon will appear to the right of the search bar.

By clicking on it, you will have only one “One Tab” open in your browser. All the sites that you had open before will be displayed here in the form of a list.

This is how we simply saved all open pages in Chrome. The next time you open it, the One Tab will appear, on which you will see a list of required sites.

If you need to open them all in new tabs, click on the “Restore All” button.

To add open sites to the extension list before closing the browser, click on its icon again to the right of the search bar.

If you right-click on it and expand the drop-down list, you can choose which pages to add to the extension.

In the One Tab list, you can select only the one that is needed for work at a particular moment. This will increase browser performance, since only the extension tab and a couple more necessary ones will be open. In this case, all the necessary 20 or 30 sites will always be at hand. As a result, the browser will lag less and will not need to be constantly restarted.

For Google Chrome browser. Unfortunately, they cannot be synchronized between computers, unlike bookmarks and extensions of the browser itself.

You can save bookmarks in several ways: to an HTML file on your computer, by turning on synchronization on all devices and using the service of the same name. The option with a file on a computer is suitable for machines that do not have access to . The synchronization option will be more universal for computers and other devices on the Internet. Well, the option of using the Google Bookmarks service is for a rainy day) for the most important thing.

Exporting bookmarks means saving them to an HTML file on your computer. This is for bookmarks only. This is done as follows.

Expand the main menu of Google Chrome > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager

In the Bookmark Manager, click Organize > Export bookmarks to HTML file...

To import bookmarks, transfer the HTML file to another computer. Open Bookmark Manager > Organize > Import bookmarks from HTML file... Select a file with bookmarks and your favorite and necessary sites will be available on another computer.

Synchronization

Synchronization - I'm not afraid of this word, best solution to save your bookmarks. When using synchronization, all your bookmarks (including bookmarks) are saved on Google servers and will be available to you anywhere. The reliability of the search leader’s servers is beyond doubt.

Convenient synchronization is achieved through automation. All you need to do is log in to your browser using your Google account on all computers, and that’s it. Then all your actions in the browser will be immediately projected onto others.

Account in Google services You can get it by getting yourself a GMAIL email. Afterwards we go to Google settings Chrome or by directly selecting “Sign in to Chrome...”

In the Sign in section, click Sign in to Chrome

In the tab that opens, set your email and password

A warning will appear stating that all your bookmarks, history and other settings will be available on other devices where you are signed in to this account. Click OK

In the window Additional settings synchronization, you can check the boxes to indicate what exactly needs to be synchronized. I find it more convenient to leave it as default. So that everything would be synchronized. Click OK

Now your bookmarks are saved on Google servers and are available to you on any computer.

You can easily disable synchronization on any device by selecting Disable Google Account... in your browser settings

A pop-up window will warn you that nothing will sync anymore. In this case, all bookmarks that are already in your browser will remain

If you want to delete your data from Google servers, then use your personal account. (Link in the pop-up window in the picture above or in the settings in the Login section). At the bottom left, click Stop and delete

A warning will appear. Click OK and all information will be deleted from Google servers

I didn’t have a lot of information on this account, so everything went quickly

If you want to save your bookmarks and other information on Google servers again, you just need to go to the browser.

Another excellent way to save important bookmarks is the service of the same name. You can access this service by typing “Google bookmarks” in the search bar

I couldn't add bookmarks there automatically. Manually, you can quickly add the most important and necessary ones. If you need access to them, you don’t have to log into your Google Chrome account, but enter your username and password to access the service and pick up what you need.

Clicking on Export bookmarks will immediately download an HTML file with all bookmarks. They can be imported into any browser.

If you need to synchronize on someone else's, then in order not to damage the user's bookmarks it is better to create another one. This is done in the settings in the Users section

Select an avatar, set a username and click Create

A new Google Chrome window will open in which you can log in using your account. Changing a user is easy. Just click on the avatar in the upper left corner and select the one you need from the drop-down list
